It probably would be, but the buggy would be slowed down by the grassy plain.

"4. Feddies can't hit an ISD if they tried."

While a scout trooper scored a hit and gunned down Leia while they both were on Speeder bikes during the chase scene. Some would call that luck, but that's impressive marksmanship.

Bike wins. No contest I think. Four tires on the ground cannot compete with the speed and steady handling of the bike. And while Storm Troopers (bike scouts) seem to have similar hero aiming problems, the Enterprise Command Staff are worse. ;)

This following is mostly a rant/question. Ignore if you hate that kind of thing. :)

Why can't the ST writers come up with cool ideas?
Why in the hell would they put a freakin Mad Max dune buggy in the movie as a Federation ground vehicle?
As a kid, I created more imaginative worlds and situations than these people. They should hire the writers from West Wing to write Trek episodes. The same socialistic bullshit - but at least it is mildly interesting in a Sci Fi background/setting. And at least the stories would be based on events and characters versus absolute silliness.

The Fed vehicle performs similarly to modern types and has a phaser mount in the back. Armor is nonexistant

The speeder bike is faster, has less armor, and a blaster in front.

They meet in the following terrains:

Desert

Bike Wins

Forest

Bike Wins buggy stuck on log

Coral atoll

Some Atolls are rings so if thos the feddy will drive back and forth untill the bike kills it

Rugged mountains

Buggy falls off of cliff bike takes lunch break

Maybe a pair of Storm Troopers on Luke's old landspeeder would make a slightly fairer fight?

Luke's landspeeder is old but it's still pretty fast. It's also a fairly steady fire platform. Not one trace of bumps on the ride. I wouldn't be all that uncomfortable kneeling up on the seat or even standing to shoot. Then it simply becomes a matter of staying in front and giving the Feds the sandcrawler treatment.

As has been mentioned in other threads, the fed dune buggy is less dangerous than a pickup filled with rednecks.

True and if we give the Stormies the same size crew the feddies would be outgunned since the speeder has enough room to mount on it a E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster. Even with that slower vehicle the Feddies will still lose.

Perhaps a better matchup would be a few Tuskens on a Bantha. Their blasters aren't very accurate and their Banthas can't be much faster than the dune buggy.

A better match up would be a proper dune buggy with a forward mounted turret to fire from. (mutters curses at B&B)

I was going by Children of the Jedi. I forgot about their canon sniping ability entirely. Oops.

How about a Jawa sandcrawler? They're big but they don't look too heavily armed.

Actually, the Tusken weapons are quite accurate, as seen in TPM. One Tusken raider scored hits on speeders moving several hundred kilometers per hour at some range. Granted, he missed several shots, but his accuracy was amazing given the difficulty of targeting a moving pod racer.

Speaknig of Sandcrawlers, The Fed dune buggy would probably be mistaken for the frame of a vehicle and be scrapped.

NTM that the Sandpeople's weapons are hardly Imperial grade weapons.

What the Tuskens did in TPM would be like hitting a fighter jet with a musket. The rifle projectiles could go through the frame, and hit the driver.

Basically.... Yeah. To call it an AFV is to lie. Not only does it have no armor, but it is also hardly a fighting vehicle.
