In a similar vein as the Iraq thread, the America as of the end of WWII is sent forward to 2004. The soldiers stationed outside of the US from today still exist, but their families and loved ones, and the geography of their homeland, has been wiped clean and replaced with ye ole America.

There are 350,000 American soldiers still deployed around the world. For some reason, I don't expect people to immediately start messing with us.

After a year or two the American forces which suddenly have no home base get to start spending some time living off of Europe and South Korea and Japan. A major war starts however as the modern Chinese Army causes a major bumfuck for the continental US.

That would severely fuck up the American economy of 1945. The US had and needed a huge merchant fleet at the time, and the few hundred modern cargo and container ships it has today wouldn't be compatible with 1945 ports and cargo handling methods. Unless of course, the US gets its whole 1945 merchant fleet, plus any modern ships which are more then 12 miles offshore.

Even with so much of the fleet in port, a large percentage of the (modern) USN would be on hand. The SoCal Naval exercise area is, for safety reasons, out beyond 12 miles (excepting the area around San Clemente). Same with east coast equlivents.

Cargo ships would still be heading towards the United States, and what's to stop them heading on in? You can beat the Truman Adminstration is going to intern any merchant vessels heading in.

As for scientists/engineers, there are thousands of Military officers with degrees in engineering/mathematics, American Expats, and highly trained technicians. For the short term, the remaining modern Fleet can still stop cold anyone trying to attack the continental states.

What about Jet Fuel and Ammo? Those ships only carry so mucth of that stuff, and the US is no longer to produce Jetfuel, microchips for missles or the types of bullets used by modern fighters.

And the Expretion on Truman's face when a People's Liberation Army bursts into the Whitehouse would be Priceless.

Sub fleet is designed to run and stay running, they don't need Fuel only Food and they have enough ammo on hand to sink the World's Navy's three times over in the forward bases alone

I guess it depends all on China really. The U.S. forces outside of America may be enough deterrent for a WHILE against invasion. I'm sure England and Australia will be willing to stand up for the US. Who knows, maybe most of Europe as well since they MIGHT feel some gratitude that these transplanted 1945 Americans are the ones directly responsible for saving their asses.

Unless they get it into them to fuck with Russia and move across the Bering Strait, there's no way the PLA is going anywhere near American soil.

What about it? Jet fuel 1945 America can have in abundance. Gasoline America has in abundance. Diesel Fuel Marine America has in abundance. Even better, The United States is just coming off WW2, the population would be a lot more willing to accept a state of emergancy and rationing than our current one.

Bullets? A Bullet is a Bullet is a Bullet.

Microchips for Missiles? Believe it or not, our Northerly neighbor has a computer component industry. Send enough money down range, and we still ahve plenty of microchips.

We can even order American Servicemen who have experience with programming home as a priority....and there are more than you'd think.

As Mr. Bean pointed out, our Sub Fleet alone could do a damn good job of deterring any one. Those D5's still work just find.

Advanced weapons production is less a problem than you'd think. Once an engineer knows it can be done, then there is really nothing to stop them from being able to do it. Especially when such much technology is now in the public Domain. (I can see Naval Warship's tech manuals, Navy Electronics Training Modules, engineering modules, even encyclopedias going a long way to covering a knowledge gap, especially with the examples on hand).

Those nukes are big ass things weighing several tonnes that need to be dropped from aircraft. THe Chinese are Packing ICBMs.

Anywhay, what point of 1945? If its the begining of said Time Period, then they got no nukes for a bit.
