I'm more disturbed by this sudden infiltration of the word 'Chav' into the entire country's language- I certainly never heard it on the mean streets of Manchester before last month- now everyone's fucking saying it. What happened to calling them scallies! Fuck 'chavs', they're scallies!

couldn't agree more.. the scary thing is, since coming here my vocabulary has changed somewhat. It had to.. "Urgh, damn scallies","what?","scalleys.. there!"."oh.. you mean chavs?"

The press in Britain has recently been having fun mocking a group for which pejorative descriptions have been created such as “non-educated delinquents” and “the burgeoning peasant underclass”. The subjects of these derogatory descriptions are said to be set apart by ignorance, fecklessness, mindless violence and bad taste.

I think it's the pronunciation that bugs me, everytime I hear chav's, it's pronounced like a countermeasure - and although that may be a creative use to get rid of the morons who hang around under the underpass setting fire to things and sneering at passers by, I don't think the RAF could put up with having a bunch of them crammed into a launching system. The scariest thing is how young some of them are; I've seen teenager girls the same age as my sister hanging round whilst their boyfriends/mates steal the hubcaps off the security vans at the local shops.

Although I resent the implication that shopping at aldi is a chav thing - there's nowt wrong wi' aldi's pizzas, lad.

Nearly got front row seats for a good scallie fight in Manchester on Friday night as well, in the end, we decided that we'd like to get back to Lancaster in one piece and left before the chairs started getting thrown around.

They're all over the place, wherever humans mke their place of dwelling, there also will you find the Townie. They're like rats, but not as clever.

Advanced field guide notes for Americans - noteworthy in this resource are the accurate rendition of some typical Chav accents (to be technically more exact what we hear is the accent of a Chav subset, the "Scally"), and an accurate portrayal of the orange-skinned female Chav. The thing with the hands/socks/strides is absolutely true.
