I've missed this place.

Post by Uraniun235 »

About four months ago, something happened. I posted, in a moment of angst, that I was taking a break from this forum and that I'd be back sometime. When I first posted that, I had in mind something like a week or two.

After I posted that, I realized that I was allowing certain issues to affect me far more than I ever should. I also saw (although this had been nagging at me for awhile before then) that I was being needlessly rude and negative on this forum. I was being an immature asshole.

I decided at that time that I should stay away from SDN until I had made some progress for the better. I deleted my bookmark to this forum and resolved not to return, not even to lurk, until I was ready to really come back.

I have to admit I found it hard for awhile, but over time I began to find it easier. I still missed the place quite a bit, but I no longer had to fight the habit of checking it daily. I only broke this resolve once, and that only to check on the forum reaction to the results of the U.S. Presidential election.

In the period that I was away, I lived a little. This included:

- Starting fall term - a second consecutive term in which I enjoyed most of my classes. Except for physics.

- A renaissance fair - my first ever. I was highly amused by everything. I didn't go in costume, but I might next year.

- Finding out that community college is a really sucky place for meeting women because they're all taken. All of them.

- Casting my first presidential vote.

- Discovering a retro-arcade with great classic games, a wondrous place where I can amuse myself for up to 90 minutes with a mere five-dollar investment.

- Seeing one of my closest friends, who was visiting from Japan where he's stationed in the Marine Corps, after not seeing him for over a year.

- Attending my first science fiction convention. Managing to hit on a 31 year old woman (but she was cute!). Overall a very positive experience. I can't wait for next year's Orycon.

Most recently, I killed my computer in an attempted RAM upgrade - which lead to the purchase of new parts and to a two week period in which I was stuck with a crappy laptop. I also found myself shot down repeatedly within that same time frame.

But, in a nice turn of events, I've finally gotten a working, fast computer up and running, and there are confirmed single girls that my friends are more than willing to hook me up with. I also learned yesterday that I aced my Western Civ final, and that I will be getting an A in my Creative Writing class as well. I'm looking forward to excellent grades in all my classes for a second consecutive term (prior to spring term my college performance was in the shitter).

Things are definitely looking up. Now seems as fine a time as any to return. I've looked forward to rejoining this fine community for quite a while.

Welcome back...glad to see you went to a few things outside. Ren Faires are a lot of fun even if you're not in costume, the food is great.

Sci-Fi cons....well they are nice the first few times(but that's just me after doing the con circuit for a comic....still have fun, just blah)

So glad to see ya back and hope the time off did you good to make you not to get too moody or attached to this place :D .
