I can whistle 'musically' although it's a bit crap from lack of practise now. However, my volume and range is pretty low. I am however incapable of the fingers-in-mouth shrills that some people can do.

I can whistle, but I can't high notes or low notes very well (much like my trumpet playing)

i can sort of whistle. but i can't do those fucking loud ass whistles that some people do. like for calling dogs and the like. never was able to figure out how the hell to do that.

you know Joe, you can buy special mouthpieces that help you cheat. I have a small cup one with a fat rim that i can plaster my lips against and wail some high notes with minimal clam. It sucks for low end stuff though. Not only can i not go as low, but the lower octaves sound a little flimsy.

I know, but I've never really gotten into mouthpieces like some people do. I've been playing on the same extremely-beaten up Bach 3C mouthpiece for 9 years now. I'm pretty much done with regular playing the trumpet, though, after the end of this semester, so it wouldn't matter much.

ahhh, the trusty 3C. I have one, along with an ancient 7C that i've had since the 7th grade. Seriously though, you'd be friggin amazed by what notes you can hit with an E or F size cup.

If I couldn't whistle, owning a dog would teach me in short order. Yes, I can whistle, and so can my entire family, though my baby brother can only do two notes.

Not only can I whistle, I can whistle two different ways, one the normal, one with my mouth open, twisting my tongue and blowing the air through that to whistle, and I can whistle breathing in. I'm the whistle master.

The muscles used while playing a brass mouthpiece should be the same used for the whistle.
And considering that I couldn't whistle before playing the trumpet...

Am I the only non-brass-instrument-player who had to read that post twice to get the dirty pictures out of his mind? Particularly given the fact that this thread is about whistling?
