TDK hits $1 Billion Mark

Post by JME2 »

From Newsarama
While it might not be getting a whole lot of Oscar love Sunday evening, The Dark Knight has reached a level of success only three other films before it have managed – Warner Bros. announced Friday that the film had surpassed the $1 billion dollar mark in worldwide box office receipts.

According to Variety, the studio placed the movie's combined domestic and international gross at $1,001,082,160 to date , or broken down about $533 million in North America and $567 million overseas.

Ecuador was the country that put The Dark Knight over the top, a Warner Bros. spokesperson revealed.

The Christopher Nolan epic joins Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest as the only film to have pulled off the feat.

Warner Bros. also reportedly noted that it's the largest 2-D digitally re-mastered IMAX release in the domestic market with $49.6 million and worldwide with $64.9 million.
Still would have been nice for it to get more Oscar nods, but this is just as good...

Sweet. I did my part, by contributing three ticket purchases. :D

Any chance it'll take Titanic's record?

Regretfully, those obnoxious, sex-crazed teenage girls circa 1997 will probably ensure that Titanic retains it's lofty position, but you never know...

Ha, not when Titanic's total is over $1.8 billion. :P

That's a record that'll probably never be broken.

^ God, no wonder James Cameron basically doesn't work anymore.

Still, that's quite a milestone for TDK. W00t! I did my part with six ticket purchases. (Joker: "Six?")

This is the guy they want to use to win over "young people?" Are they completely daft? I'd rather vote for a pile of shit than a Jesus freak social regressive.
Here's hoping that his political career goes down in flames and, hopefully, a hilarious gay sex scandal.

So basically you want to do what they, the only difference is it is with a movie you like. That doesn't make you hypocrite at all. Shocker, grown man doesn't like romance movie, god forbid a movie that doesn't appeal to you is successful.

Titanic had timing on it's side seeings how, barely anything came out following the weeks (with some obvious exceptions), The Dark Knight had to fight off (see what I did there) the rest of the summer movies, which it did quite well up until Tropic Thunder.

Two tickets went to The Dark Knight on my end, and the 2nd ticket was just because I was 15 and couldn't buy a Tropic Thunder ticket.

Uhhh. . .that's precisely the issue people take with the Titanic. It literally had no competition whatsoever, so people still went to see it despite the fact it was mediocre at best while superior movies have no such advantages and thus can't reasonably compete.

Plus, Titanic was showing for several months. Despite the long time TDK was out, it had plenty of big competition for screens and it never got that Oscar release at IMAX again.

I remember hearing that Lucasfilm expected The Phantom Menace would overtake Titanic, sigh.
