Dear Lord yes. Sansweet used them in the Star Wars Encyclopedia and it about made me puke. First off the reading is terrible, second off it barely flows with the Star Wars EU.

Everywhere I read I see a negative feedback to the Old Republic timeframe books. I think they so far seem to be setting a bad trend for the Old Republic. They could be doing such a good job with those books yet they seem not to be. Although I haven't read any most people seem to think they are failing miserably.

Read my comments on Approaching Storm in the other thread. I give a complete review, complete with quotes and exerpts from the book itself. Then you will see why everyone hates these books. I am attempting to write my own book in that era, but progress is slow. I think it will work, though. It could be a much better read than what is out there, now.

Splinter of the Minds Eye – 3.5, a fun read even if it doesn’t flow so well with current EU due to when it was written.

Truce at Bakura – 2, it’s all right if a little daft and if you include the marvel comics in canon in the week after Endor there were 3 alien invasions.

X-Wing 1 to 4 – 2.5, fun reads for the most part but Corran *shudders*

Xwing 5,6,7 – 4, Allston is god.

X-Wing 8 – 2, Isard is back with a clone could this have been any less interesting as a plot?

X-Wing 9 – 4, brilliant.

I, Jedi – 1, ick Corran. Oh yeah and Luke gets lectured again.

Courtship of Princess Leia – 0, pathetic in every possible way.

The Thrawn Trilogy – 2.5, overrated. I never found these as interesting as a lot seem to and the fricking uber characters get on my nerves. Thrawn, uber admiral, C’Boath uber jedi and Karrde uber smuggler. Oh yeah and then there is Jade ick.

JAT – 0, pathetic plotting. Superweapons and more superweapons backed up by a lame villain in Daala and oh yeah the latest “more powerful than Luke” jedi in Kyp and oh yeah nothing is complete in the EU without Luke getting 0wned by a dark sider it seems.

The New Rebellion – 2. Good book overall if a little nonsensical in places and oh yeah Luke gets his arse kicked again.

Spectre of the Past – 3, a good book overall even if I can’t see why anyone would give a shit about Thrawn coming back to lead an Empire that is too small to be a threat to anyone. Even Vader or Palpy wouldn’t produce that sort of reaction at this point.

VOTF – 1. Luke gets lectured again, repeatedly and loudly and when he finally retaliates he immediately apologises. Lame. Luke officially becomes pussy whipped in this book and they go from zero to marriage in about 10 seconds.

Bounty Hunter Wars – 0, this is just fucking terrible in every way the only redeeming point is that for once Luke doesn’t get lectured or beaten up.

BFC – 0. Distinguished only by the fact that he managed to get 3 completely separate plot threads that at no point converge into one series. Oh yeah and Luke gets lectured again and this time it makes even less sense than before.

Anything with “Hambly” on the front, -10000000000000000000.

The Crystal Star. Worst. Book. Ever.

Those Han Solo ones by Crispin – 1.5. Good books but Bria. Ugh. She’s up there with Corran and Jade for annoyance at times.

I won’t go into the NJO. Most of them are distinctly average and it suffers from lets make the OT characters look like fucking retards so we can elevate the new characters syndrome. I swear if things don’t get better after NJO I am done with the EU, it’s become a waste of money.

Wow crazy :D You really hate the EU. Surprised to see you even frequent Star Wars boards :D

As for your reviews....

Truce at Bakura royally ticked me off. What the heck is the Alliance doing out in Egypt when the Empire is still alive and well??? Im sorry, I don't think the Alliance would send their top personell to help one planet.

Han Solo Trilogy- EXCELLENT! I thought Bria Tharen was a good character myself, until she started tweeking out because she couldn't get her "Exultation" thats when she became scary

Black Fleet Crisis- AMEN. I can't stand it. Luke acts like Han Solo (loner) and acts like a frickin baby... WHERE'S MY MOMMY?

Bounty Hunter Wars- AMEN once again. I couldn't read 5 pages in a row before putting the book down.

Thrawn Duology and Trilogy- Best Star Wars EU books of all time, period. Thrawn has the most in depth plots and best EU characters that you can actually get into.

nah I don't hate the EU I'm just harsh on the ratings anything 2 or above I've read numerous times and has some entertainment value.

Bria Tharen wasn't too bad until they started worming in ESB lines to try and make it look like Han got stuff like the I know from Bria. That is truly vomit worthy. Everyone loved her, even fuckin' Boba Fett it was sickening.

The Thrawn novels are hugely overrated because most people are nostalgic about the books that got them into the EU first. A number of the original characters are written to be superhuman and it gets real old real fast. We have Thrawn who is a hundred times the tactician of everyone else and gets insight through art, well that's original but it's still fucking stupid. We have Karrde the man who knows everything which gets even older and quicker. And then there is C'Boath, the first in a long line of EU dark siders that kick Lukes arse without even breaking a sweat. Oh and Jade, she wasn't quite as bad here but she's became little miss perfect since, everyone worships her and I frankly cannot stand her sometimes. She's had next to zero force training and she lectures Luke on the force in VOTF! And she harangues him for declaring himself a master after only 6 years yet by VP she's a master there's what 2 years between VOTF and VP? Bahahaha.

Truce had a pretty strange plot and Luke yet again got the crap knocked out of him but it was fun. They should write more novels set near to ROTJ time when Luke was still a decent character and not the EU punchbag and halfwit that he has become.

I have to agree with you on the Mara Jade lecture of Master Skywalker. That gets extremely old, and I said the same thing myself. Where does she get the idea she can push around Skywalker who has 20 times the training she does.

As for new book, in February 2003 there is a new book coming out called Tatooine Ghost I believe. It deals with the newly married Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo. She supposedly is hesitan to have kids because of the uncertainty of what would happen to her kids (Vader) while Han wants to have them. Also, they travel to Tatooine and uncover some things about Anakin in Mos Espa. Sounds like a neat tie in to the Old Republic era to the New Republic. We'll have to see how it comes off.
