Christ, it seems like the death rate is steadily increasing. I felt like there was a significantly longer gap between the first and the 2000th death than there was between the 2000th and the 3500th death. Longer than would be accounted for by the 500 body difference.

And volverapor, you are right. The 3000 was reached at the end of 2006 (exactly at December 31st), so it only took 5 months for the raise to 3500. It seems that the rate seems to accellerate...

This would also be true if there were a completely non-discriminatory draft. People would be less keen on going to war if they could no longer shove the responsibility off onto a small percentage of the nation's families.

They're making a very sharp point of avoiding it because they know if they did their job there'd be rioting on the streets demanding our withdrawal from Iraq, the ouster of Bush and Cheney, real briber^H^H^H^H^Hcampaign finance reform, drug/sex law reform, and any number of other things. That wouldn't sit too well with their corporate paymasters. Unfortunately for them, they're doomed to fighting only a mere delaying action with the Internet around.

I remember when this same value was at 2000.

It feels like a week ago.

A second moment also to the many more left scarred by their service. For the dead the war is over, for those with missing limbs, brain damage, PTSD the real struggle has yet to come.
