Alabama Lists Gays Among Terrorist Groups

Post by Pint0 Xtreme »

Can someone tell me if there is any conceivable justification for this?
(Montgomery, Alabama) The Alabama Department of Homeland Security has taken down a Web site it operated that included gay rights and anti-war organizations in a list of groups that could include terrorists.

The Web site identified different types of terrorists, and included a list of groups it believed could spawn terrorists. The list also included environmentalists, animal rights advocates and abortion opponents.

The director of the department, Jim Walker, said his agency received a number of calls and e-mails from people who said they felt the site unfairly targeted certain people just because of their beliefs. He said he plans to put the Web site back on the Internet, but will no longer identify specific types of groups.

Howard Bayliss, chairman of the gay and lesbian advocacy group Equality Alabama, said he doesn't understand why gay rights advocates would be on the list.

"Our group has only had peaceful demonstrations. I'm deeply concerned we've been profiled in this discriminatory matter," Bayliss said.

The site included the groups under a description of what it called "single-issue" terrorists. That group includes people who feel they are trying to create a better world, the Web site said. It said that in some communities, law enforcement officers consider certain single issue groups to be a threat.

"Single-issue extremists often focus on issues that are important to all of us. However, they have no problem crossing the line between legal protest and ... illegal acts, to include even murder, to succeed in their goals," it read.

Walker said the site had been up since spring 2004, and had gotten a relatively small number of hits until it recently became the subject of blogs, he said.

Birmingham attorney Eric Johnston, president of the Alabama Pro Life Coalition, said he was concerned about any list that described people doing social justice work as terrorists.

"Our group's main mission is educational. The thought that we would somehow be harboring terrorists escapes me," he said.

Groups that could include terrorists? That certainly was a very long list...
But I honestly don't know why one would include gays there, unless this was in fact a list of "groups we don't like".

Nah, the abortion clinic bombers were on the list too.

To be fair, a few of the issues they mentioned (namely animal rights and opposition to abortion) have been known to spawn some serious nutcases.

Can't say I've ever heard of a gay rights group that has degenerated to sponsoring terrorism, though.

And anti-war organizations? I can imagine someone going "Let's go off some pigs...for PEACE!" But I can only do that because my mind is severely twisted and I enjoy pondering scenarios that make absolutely no fucking sense.

Perhaps they're worried about the Pink Pistols?

AFAIK, none have.

It may not make sense, but that didn't stop assholes like the Weathermen from bombing college ROTC centers in the name of 'peace'.

I can imagine those scenarios because they have happened many times. History is full of examples of "peace" organizations initiating violence or engaging in terrorist activities against government facilities.

We homosexuals instill terror in Fundamentalist Christians, we are responsible for every natural disaster that befalls this Godly nation; it is just, and fitting, that we were on that list.

It's fucking Alabama, how are any of you surprised? "Logic" isn't very high on importance among the kind of people living in Alabama. Bible Belt, remember?

Considering the well known proven history of violence from anti-choice groups they could hardly not include them on the list so they can't really get any credit for that.

Come on people...we all know that gays strike utter terror into those with secret sexual desires that would reflect their own inclusion in the group.

Thus, gays are indeed terrorists. By their mere presence they threaten people's insecure sexuality who have been taught how evil it is! :P

I think you are confusing "anti-war" or even "anti Iraq war" with "pacifist". Unless someone says they are against violence period there's no logical contradiction in using violence to oppose a war. War isn't the only form of violence.

Oh man...It's like they want their state to be known for its ignorance and backwardness.

From the site wrote:Single issue extremists are not trying to fight a cheap war or overthrow our government. In fact, they feel that what they are doing is necessary for a better world.

Single issue extremists often focus on issues that are important to all of us. However, they have no problem crossing the line between legal protest and change and illegal acts, to include even murder, to succeed in their goals. In many communities, law enforcement officials feel that these groups offer the greatest organized threat to the community.
Ah, perhaps these "illegal acts" including breaking ancient sodomy laws?
