Live from the eagle's nest

The last egg has hatched.

Drove by the nest atop the old Railroad bridge. One of the ospreys was standing on the edge -- black body whitish head.

But it's in a place where you cant' get a camera to the nest so no clue how many eggs or if they've all hatched.

The younglings are growing fast. Two big ones and the youngest a bit smaller. It was harassed by the oldest. Hopefully, it can grow enough to be independent by the time the migration starts.

OK, lots of stuff has happened, but since the board has been under attack, I've been unable to update, so here are several updates:

The eaglets got ringed about 2 weeks ago:



The smallest chick, named Sol, was in a poor state after being bullied by its brothers/sisters (don't know the gender yet) and always having to eat last. Usually, the ornithologists would not interfere, but since there's little fish in the area this year, something caused by extreme temperatures that makes the fish swim deeper than usual, and overfishing in the Oslo Fjord, something that has a human cause, they decided to interfere and try to save Sol by kidnapping her (Sol is most likely a female) and give her food and peace to build up strength:

How Sol is doing:



Oh yeah, about a week ago, a boat approached the nest, stressing out Mrs Rauer to no end. They obviously knew about the nest and the also must have known that you should keep at least 300 meter away from the nest. Thankfully, the island the nest is on, is military area, so no one can get on land without explicit authorization from the military.

Both remaining eaglets are now often away from the nest.

Sol (Sun), the "kidnapped" eaglet, have now been transferred to another nest. This will be her new home a couple of weeks until she gains her independence. She has to be able to trek to Africa before September, I think, and before that, learning to fly and catch her own food, so fingers crossed. Below is a video of her being placed in her new home. This place is without camera.
