Rest in Peace, Mom...

Post by Frank Hipper »

My mom died last night after lengthy battles with recovery from stroke, coccidioidomycosis, type 2 diabetes, amputation, and the staph infection which led to pneumonia and septic shock that killed her.

I intended to lay out the very long sequence of events that led up to this point, but I'm having trouble stringing my thoughts together right now. Maybe later, as I've got an appointment with the funeral director in an hour and forty five minutes.

Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A little over nine years ago, I was where you are now. There came a time when I was concerned less about the fact that it sucked that Mom had to die -- for her own sake, that is -- and more that I and everyone else wouldn't ever see her again. Things will get a little worse before they get better, but they will get better.

It sounds like she was trending downwards for a long time but I can understand how even an expected loss can be a shock. If she was starting to mend before the infection...

Well. I'd offer to help, if there was any way for me to give you support in these times.

Without trying to sound callous, it sounds to me like she put up one hell of a fight going through all that.

My condolences to you, my friend, and I wish you strength in the coming days.

My sympathies, things like this are never easy.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots.
