2009 NFL OFF SEASON

Sweet Jesus. We took a green-as-paint Aaron Schobel clone 11 overall. With Ayers still on the board. And Everette Brown, and Brian Orakpo (ok I get that one, we manage to pick every wimp ever to pass through the Texas FB program).

Mel Kiper has the Browns taking Sanchez... that guy is a fucking idiot.

Not entirely. Sanchez did go at #5 -it's just the Browns swapped places with them.

The Browns traded down a bunch of times and eventually got Alex Mack, C from Cal. I'm a little disappointed that we didn't get a big-name defensive guy, but I won't complain about an O-line pick, ever.

We also ended up getting Robiskie, WR and Masaquoi(sp?) WR from Georgia. I wish we would have gotten someone like Mauluga or another linebacker sooner, but WR is no longer a position of need for us. We also got a big DE from the Jets, as well as a safety and a QB. The two defensive guys fill positions of need, and we did eventually draft a couple of linebackers. We'll just have to see how these guys develop.

How are you fixed for OLBs? Has Willy McGinnest been getting it done?

Against the run, yes. Anything else, no. However, I'm pretty sure he's a FA now.

We drafted an OLB or two, and we picked up a couple undrafted FA linebackers. However, we're gonna need some of the guys who we have already to step up. I'm thinking the linebacking corps is gonna be Kamerion Wimbley, D'Qwell Jackson, Eric Barton, and one of those young kids that we just got or have had for a year. Beau Bell might be a candidate, along with Alex Hall and Leon Williams. Those three are all second year guys.

I'll be interested to see how the players Arizona drafted this year turn out since it seems like most of them are pretty good choices. It's just that the Cardinals are kind of known for drafting players who don't do shit in Arizona but go on to bigger and better things after they leave.

Also, I see that they finally released Edgeran James like he wanted.

I was just surprised that they waited so long to release him if they weren't going to keep him. I wonder if they were keeping him in case they didn't get anyone in the draft, or they were hoping to trade him?

As far as Favre goes, apparently 22% of NFL readers who bothered to take the poll think that he'll be suiting up next year. Not an enormous percentage, but certainly a whole lot higher than if, say, Jeff Feagles retired.

Larry Foote will probably become a Lion very soon. He was only recently released by the Steelers.

Mike Furrey is now a Brown. Why we got him, I have no idea. But he's here, so let's make the best of it.

And Brett Favre is supposedly set to talk to the Vikings. Interesting day today.
