This thread made me think of my favorite game on the old Commadore 64.

Crush, Crumble and Chomp. :D Basically you control a giant monster based on, but not perfectly mimicing, several classic Kaiju. In some versions of the game you could even build your own.

Anyway, the reason I bring this up is because two of the default monsters would be varying degrees of extreme bad news. The Glob (IIRC) which was a blob rip-off left a flaming trail every where it went. So if it shows up in your city you could very easily end up with no city because of spreading fires.

The other, my favorite , Goshilla was a Godzilla knock off who left a trail of radioactive crud behind him every place he walked. Can you imagine the cost of clean up after you either kill or drive off a monster like that? Assuming it could be cleaned up.

Heck, Godzilla and Fire Rodan leave at least some sort of radioactive signature behind on the places they've been.

Another monster that would be really bad is Hedorah (Smog Monster). That thing left nothing but nastiness in it's wake. People being choked, or just burned to death by acid.
By the pricking of my thumb,
Something wicked this way comes.
Open, locks,
Whoever knocks.

The blast that left a crater several hundred meters in diameter as I recall.
It also leveled the entire city of Sendai. From the vantage point of the crater there was nothing standing within sight but a few skyscraper frames IIRC.

Sorry, where was weapons development covered?
The link indicates multiple anti-kaiju Super Weapons in production, or that were in production at one time
I'm thinking that if the physics in this alternate reality allow the existence of such creatures, would we be able to take advantage of the physics to develop technology and engineer weapons beyond the capabilities of what we have in reality?
Perhaps taking the form of fantastic fictional weapon systems like giant robots with laser guns etc
Almost exactly.

To be specific, and in order of appearance, as well as other technology-related differences:

1800s - The Expriments of Victor Frankenstien.

First Transgenic Experimentation: 1896 - "The Island of Dr. Moreau." - Done through very crude means, by a madman with access to "lost civilization" technology.

First Heavier-than-air Flight: Robur the Conquerer, 1897. A so-called Science-Pirate similar to Captain Nemo.

First Major Alien Invasion: 1899 - "The War of the Worlds" - Limited to England, Cuba (minor); South Africa (minor); Paris, France; China; Texas; Italy; India; New York, New York; Russia; St. Louis, Missouri; New Orleans, Louisiana; and other locations. Creature's slain by disease, leaving behind their odd technology.

First Bizzare Machine: 1900 "The Iron Mole" - Used to burrow long distance, accidently plunged into Pellucidar on its maiden voyage. Developed into the "Borrer" Series of exploratory drills by the 1970s.

First "Nutrient" incident: 1904 "The Food of the Gods" - A substance, able to be analyzed, is linked to certain forms of animal gigantism. Captain Nemo apparently experimented with the subtance some 40 years prior on Lincoln Island.

First Human Cyborg: Nyctalope - Primitive Artificial Heart, Eyes

First Warrior Robot: 1915 "The Iron Robot" - Used by an amoral genius to plunger hidden cities in Africa. Stands 4m tall, deontated in 1947. Mecha of that era tended to fit his mold. Medium cannon fire can destroy or disable. Many are piloted, often by mad criminals, during this time.

First Weaponization of Monsters: 1916-1918 - Countered by heroic pilots equiped with heavy-calibur machine guns: G-8 and his Battle Aces face Demons, Monsters and Mecha with equal opplom.

Discovery of lost land Caspak: 1918 - Kept prehistoric and 'evolving' creatures are living on the back of a Great Old One, which doesn't like things leaving. Must unnatural of the Lost Worlds discovered (including "The Land that Time Forgot" in southern Africa, Maple White Land in South America, the Lost Valley in Northern Australia and Skull Island in the Indian Ocean).

First Bio-Engineered Plant: 1931 - Triffids. They eat meat, can kill mammals (like humans) and dig their roots into the decaying flesh. They also catch insects and small animals in their "Flower". They can be harvested for a powerful nutrient.

First Nekketsu Engine: 1933 - Called a "Vril Generator" or Atum's Fork. Destroyed by the mysterious vigilante Lobster Johnson to prevent it from falling into the hands of "David" Lo Pan. A second, dubbed the "Vril Organ" is created by Baron Henrick von Helsingard after plundering the city of Vril-Ya, but is also destroyed. The first true Nekketsu Engine is not created until the early 1970s, and these are larger and clunkier than these original versions.

1937 - First "Rocket Pack" invented by Doc Savage. He keeps this, and many other inventions ahead of their time, under wraps due to his mental problems. To him, they weren't "Perfeted" yet...ever.

1938 - Nicola Tesla invents an electrical Direct Enrgy Weapon.

1940 - First chemically created, intentional Super Soldier. Forumla lost soon after the initial test subject(s) are created. Only one gains publicity.

1952 - First British Space Rocket (returns with a horrible cactus monster attatched to it).

1956-1957 - Massive undergound caverns (holding monstrous beings) are discovered. They are not Pellucidar.

1961 - A mad scientist build the - Gotengo - a Triphibian Submarine vessel. It is Co-opted by the JSDF to battle remnant Mulian civilization that tried to carve out an empire in the pacific. They chose to die rather than accept defeat. The most advanced weapon of the Gotengo, aside from the Tesla-beam canons (4) is a freezing weapon--but it has a very limited range (200 meters) and disperses quickly.

1966 - The JSDF incorporates Telsa's Direct Energy Weapon into anti-Kaiju forces during an era of high-attack variance. They can only afford to build a dozen handheld versions and another dozen mounted on 3 specialized fighters--allowing quick response and ease of escape--the weapons have a short effective range--300 meters to effect Kaiju class 50 or more. Handeld variants appear to only annoy class 50 or above. Clunky, costly and the threat of them detonating like a grenade exists.

Mechanikong Constructed by a science-pirate. Will not become a JSDF weapon until 1998.

1967 - First attempt to control the Loch Ness Monster as Class 50 Kaiju ends with the JSDF's intervention (as it was Alien invaders seeking to control the beast).

1968 - a civilian company, Umbrella, begins to meddle in Bio-weapons vectors based on the Kaiju incidents.

1969 - The Quest Team uses many high-end devices for their research purposes. Including refined, flamesless 'Jet' packs, monster makers and even an 'earthquake machine. More refined Direct Energy Weapons appear, as does the "Para Power Ray" which Quest mothballs.

1969 - Communist Terrorist Group, Red Bamboo, creates several Class 30 Kaiju intentionally to unleash them on Japan. They are stopped by Godzilla being roused by their pollution--and the Quest team sabatoging their equipment.

1971 - Surviving South American Nazi Groups unviel "Kaijin" - Genetically and Cybernetically enhanced humanoid creatures. Since then, several groups used such inhuman weaponized soldiers to terroristic ends.

1972 - First "Super Robot," powered by a Nekketsu Engine and using a new alloy for its hull, is built. The second one is dubbed "Mazinger Z." Less than a dozen are built due to the poor economy of Japan at the time (Mazinger Z, Aphrodite A, Venus A, Diana A, Great Mazinger, Getter Robo, Getter Robo G, Gigantor) --and the later Danger in the use of the Nekketsu Engine (it creates Pink Slime as a byproduct and, if damaged sevearly, can go off like a hydrogen bomb--creating even more Pink Slime horrors). Super Robots are used against Class 30 and Class 50 Monsters until 1982, when the technology is blacklisted.

1972 - Invesntion of the first VR Computer Interface "Questworld." It's unimaginably primitive.

1973 - First intentional, controlled Class 50 Kaiju created. An Ultraman blows it to bits almost immideatly. If that sounds as though the Ultraman was squeltching humanity's technological development, keep in mind it was made by Nazis to rebuild the Reich.

1973 - Dr. Benton Quest perfects (at the urging of Science Pirates) a Freeze ray. He escapes with the only prototype and the pirates are destroyed by a malfunctioning 'Freeze Bomb' they alread created.

1973 - The Seaview, an anti-Kaiju submarine, is Launched. Armed with a more advanced Direct Energy Weapon.

1974 - Questworld equipment destroyed--as well as construction notes, by an ex CIA agent turned terrorist.

1975 - Awakening of the RahXephon, destruction of several Mu societies sequested in the world. RahXephon disappears in 1976.

1980 - First man-made primitive AIs appear outside of Robot Construction.

1982 - "Tron" - First human to be 'digitized' and enters the dimension called the Wired.

1984 - "Ghostbusters" technology developed.

1988 - The miliatary attempts to make a Blob into a Bioweapon. It does not go well.

1990 - Bionic replacement limbs, not as powerful as some early production models, become available. These limbs require flesh to be grafted over them and a 30% risk of rejection remains, doubled for those that go beyond the human norm.

1992 - Advanced Direct Energy weapons are mounted on Tanks for the first time. The range remains abysmal.

1993 - First non-intentional AI develops. May be Data Life Form infection.

1994 - Tagurato Corporation discovers "Clover" organisms and mines their amniotic fluid containers for food additives, once its discovered how addictive it can be.

Stargate re-activated on earth. Originally left on earth by the Elder Things.

Judas-breed Rochaes are engineered to slay cockroach-spread diseases in New York. They replace the roach and evolve into a new species within 3 years--stupid T-Virus. Roaches from other locations repopulate New York in that time, but the disease is irradicated. Judas thought extinct by 1997.

1995 - First appearance of Replicators on earth.

1997 - Stargate re-activated for greater exploration.

1998 - Umbrella Retrovirus dubbed the "T-Virus" (and later the G-Virus) are unintentionally unleashed in an American Town, leading to amajor incident.

Two giant Osprey are built and armed for Anti-Kaiju Combat by the US Government. They are dubbed "Raptor 1" and "Raptor 2" (Raptor 2 serving mostly a support fucntion, as its Eyes and Earts). The weakest armament on Raptor 1 consists of 4 40mm cannons. They are heavily armed, but destroyed by King Ghidorah in 2000.

2001 - A girl gets ahold of Elder Thing Bio-Tech and creates several monsters and creates the "babel event" - a global communications breakdown. In 2003, the SGC attempts to gain this knowledge, but the last of her creations, Biollante, drives them off.

2004 - Completion of MOGUERA and MECHAGODZILLA. The alter uses several Nanotubes and holds possibility for full mechanical replacement limbs in the future.

That about covers everything, IIRC.

Other Armements include 96 Surface-to-air missiles, half of them with solid Cadmium warheads (designed to fight Godzilla specifically, introducing Cadmium into his system to weaken him), 30 Heavy Smart Bombs and 2 Cruise Missiles (replaced with Anti-Bismark level Battleship Killers with extremely peircing warheads--and one of them still fails to penetrate King Ghidorah's hide. The other fails to detonate until Godzilla blasts it--but it succeeds in blasting off a head!!)

You mean like the unavoidable hordes of milleniarian rape gangs? I can see that. I hear the BAD people never get killed by monster attacks, only the GOOD ones. LOL.

Frankly since many of these creatures are expressly unkillable, this is just fanboy silliness. Oh wow, more ice guns of Navarrone, oh look they came back again. Wow.

Only half a dozen or so creatures can revive that quickly, others simply 'spawn anew' as the conditions for their creation/appearance are re-created.

Well, my first thought is the same as when I saw the timeline in the fanfic forum. 'Why the hell are Slayers and the Watcher's Council of any importance at all on this planet?'

For a more on-topic comment, nuclear testing would come to a crashing halt when the origins of the various nuclear monsters came to light. I'm not sure what kind of measure would be taken to allow testing to resume, but I could easily see Sarin getting dropped all over an area to make damned sure that nothing was alive to be mutated.

Cause in WWII and Vietnam, draftees were only used for unskilled labor.

There's no reason why the government could not call up university graduates for service when civilization is under siege by fucking giant monsters multiple times per year.

I was actually referring to the long-ish list of under "Class 30" creatures in the OP as well.

I'd rather splatter Anguirus with a nuke and risk having him come back, then let him continue on unmolested and have him kill millions in a crowded metropolitan area. (And you realize how much it hurts to say that, I hope. :P )

Aside from the occasional aversion of an Old One (class 100) awakening and defeat of certain lesser evils? Not that much. Just another facet of the world.

How long do you suppose that would take? Yamane proposed it for Godzilla when he first appeared, but I can probably bet that they wouldn't take a bigger link to it for another 10 years at best.

Then there's areas of naturally high Uranium deposts that have similar effects (worse, one of them is in MEXICO).

Have you considered the really odd possibilites, like Kentucky Fried Chicken running experiments with the Food of the Gods, rat fanciers deciding they want to keep much larger pets, or Kraken becoming this universe's version of fugu (well... it's more likely to kill the chef than the customer, but it's still the world's deadliest sushi)?

Are you still taking suggestions for your timeline? If so, you could throw Gorgo into 1961, just for some global kaiju balance.

Yes. And not only is Gorgo already a part of the universe, Gorgo himself fills in several Godzilla: The Series occurences and Ogra herself is -- at some point -- Godzilla's Mate.

Since it looks like you included Land of the Lost in your timeline have you considered using technology from the lost Sleestak city and the various pilon type buildings they have scattered throughout the land?

In the later season(s) there was also an invisible space ship with an alien that wasn't able to leave but he did have enough tech to build a mechanical dinosaur (really just the metal armature of one of the stop motion puppets  ).
