The funny thing is...the chinese government know about these problems quite a while ago, and keep on expressing to US that China cannot really afford to match the US so soon.
And US always seem to scream 'we can't hear you' by all the talks about china challenging US for power. Seriously, I felt that china seem more sane than the US in recent times, the leaders anyway.

What are you talking about? The official in the interview expressed that one of the major obstacles were other high ranking members of the government and corporations, as well as provincial governments. That those who were in power were more interested in keeping their GDP growing at the same rate it's at, damn the consequences.
Also, when was the US ever pushing for China to up its standard of living to match the US? Unless you meant something more along the lines of industrial production.

China is self-sufficient in foods?
Did you see it's import-export balance on grain cultures or not?

Is the Philippine economy codependent upon China's? Or are you concerned that China might invade the Philippines for resources if the Chinese economy collapses? (Don't-- the only nation directly threatened by China is Taiwan.)Shroom Man 777 wrote:I'm afraid for the Philippines, if and when that happens.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

I wouldn't be worried by any serious Chinese attempts at power projection. They simply don't have the capability. They couldn't even take Taiwan if they tried.Sidewinder wrote:Is the Philippine economy codependent upon China's? Your spirit, diseased as it is, refuses to allow you to give up, no matter what threats you face... and whatever wreckage you leave behind you.

Such is Australia's destiny. As it is, defense spending had increased on coastal interdiction, and there's even a hot new television series on the same subject starring one of our favorite TV personalities

Does that comment about China needing seven times as much energy to develop an equivalent amount of GDP as a developed nation take into account things like undervalued currencies and purchasing power parity?
As for grain, a lot of the imports goes to feeding all the livestock that China has now.

Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.
