I believe one of the points of contention was taxation without representation.
The grievance was listed as "For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:" and was number 17 in a list of 27.
The greivance was also a farce. The leaders of the American colonies had absolutely no desire to be represented in the British Parliment. It would have had less influence than Wyoming does in the United States Congress.
Americans who had essentially lived on their own and governed themselves since the founding of Jamestown chafed under British attempts to assert itself in colonial affairs and relieve the financial burden defending the colonies had cost.
Of course, this family is represented, however much the founders of the nation would probably have wished otherwise.

Or maybe we can just see this from a larger perspective; it's Darwin at work.
If anybody is REALLY interested in both this trainwreck and the American psyche, there is a 67 page thread on AR15.com which you can read. The amount of idiots and "fight da man!" fools is truly staggering, although to the credit of the board there there are quite a few people who are correctly pointing out that the Browns are just flat-out wrong and a bunch of criminals. There is a lot of info on this whole case, and a few people who live in the neighborhood of the Browns as well (and who basically want to be rid of them...).
It's both a horrifying and funny experience, reading some of that stuff.
"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.
Specialization is for insects."
R.A. Heinlein.
The irony of this is I bet a lot of them at AR15 are Conservathugs and voted Bush into office and thus increasing the power of the Federal Governmen, with an emphasis on the Executive part.
Sorry for the doublepost... but is he really arguing McVeigh was at all justified and that his only crime was the destruction of a building? Did he completely forget the part where he timed it exactly when the kids were arriving for daycare and even referred to them as 'collateral'?
On April 14, 2007, the Concord Monitor reported that Ed and Elaine Brown "recently ordered the clerk of the court to close their case, citing themselves as 'the court' and 'judge'." The Browns reportedly signed their filings with the court using new names: "Edward, a Living Soul in the Body of the Lord, of the House of Israel," and "Elaine, a Living Soul in the Body of the Lord, of the House of Israel." The court rejected the filings, ruling them frivolous.[17]
The Monitor also reported: "The Browns changed their names in late March after converting to a non denominational form of Christianity they learned from a man named Sonny. According to friends of the Browns, Sonny, who wears a long beard, all-white attire and sandals, flew from Hawaii to New Hampshire to visit the Browns and shared his religious and legal teachings over several days."[18]
In early June 2007 Brown claimed that the law enforcement officials surrounding his properties were part of a "Zionist, Illuminati, Free Mason movement," and that the federal government had no jurisdiction in New Hampshire.[19] Referring to the warrants and court orders against him, Brown said "This is just paper [ . . . ] This is fiction. The entire American government is fiction. We created it, didn't we?"[20] The New Hampshire Union Leader also reported that "the Browns believe the IRS and the federal income tax are part of a deliberate plot perpetrated by Freemasons to control the American people and eventually the world."
So they're religious nutters as well. Although to be honest, "Freemasons are out to get us!" thing is rather refreshing to see, since this is some old school conspiracy crap, not the new "Zionist Jews did it!" garbage. Arfcom being full of retards who support them or try and justify their actions isn't surprising. That same forum had people who are against electronic locks on gun safes because they're worried that EMP from a nuclear device might disable it.

Nope, they included the Jews in there too. See the "Zionist" bit to their "Zionist Illuminati Freemason" rant.
(Though Wiki isn't exactly the best source to use for this sort of thing)
