Rahm: Cheney's Office To Be Defunded.

Post by SirNitram »

Quoted from MSNBC...
[Cheney] is acting like he’s unaccountable to anybody…and he’s taking an unbelievable step saying he’s not a member of the executive branch, he’s a member of the legislative branch, therefore he doesn’t have to provide information. … So I said, If that’s your logic, then we shouldn’t be funding you through the executive branch. Either Wednesday or Thursday my amendment will be on the floor, because the funding for the executive branch is on the floor. And I’ll strike the money for the Vice President’s Office. He can live off the Senate presidency budget that funds him up here. And that’s fine. But if he’s going to be funded in the executive branch, he complies with the rules that apply to everybody. He is not above the rules of the executive branch.
Now that's some brass balls, threatening to just cut off the funds to the guy who appears to be running this Presidency.

Now if someone can get an image of the bill with money towards Cheney struck out, we'd have the perfect 'owned' picture.

I'm sure the Republicans or even the Democratic leadership will block it somehow, because they're all pussies.

Goddamn, its refreshing to see someone within the US government to take a hardline against the gang in charge. Is it sad though that I have little hope of anything coming of this, other than this man's reputation being blasted as his amendment dies on the floor?

Oh, fuck yes. Give it to him hard! This is what should have been happening for the past six years.

Now, I'm still pessimistic that this will be blocked, but it's good to see some talk at least.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

I'm not as sure. If there's one thing that even pussy legislators don't like, it's having their imagined authority flaunted.

Howedar, if their authority is merely imagined, wouldn't that mean this will ultimately be ineffectual again?

Poor phrasing on my part. They think they're a lot bigger deals than they really are.

Legislatures SHOULD BE big deals. If they're willing to grow a spine and actually, oh I dunno, USE THEIR POWER rather than bow to the Executive, good on them.

Have you met a legislator? Have you noticed how they think their shit doesn't stink?

They are the "bigger deal" according to the Constitution. That's the way our system is planned.

Goddamn it. If that's really the way you all want to keep reading my statements, I guess I can't stop you.

I never said or implied that the legislative branch is not the primary arbiter of power in this country. I would think that, were someone to think I said this, they'd also think back to everything I've ever said about politics here and wonder if my apparent support of an all-powerful executive was consistent with my other positions.

Whatever. Forget I said anything.

So you meant that each individual legislator is self-important, when they only have a right to that importance in aggregate?

Pork. It's the most blatant and obvious example of legislators gleefully putting their own interests before those of the country as a whole.

Speaking of which, we need a goddamned Privy Council, though who would serve on it is a sticky wicket to work out.

This quote could be taken so out of context.

But seriously, nice to see the man getting his comeuppance. Or rather, it's nice to see that 1 guy is talking about maybe giving this guy his comeuppance.

Jesus, have we sunk this far? Really?
