A theme park inspired by the adventures of schoolboy wizard Harry Potter is to open in the US.
The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter will open at the Universal Orlando Resort, in Florida, in 2009.
Harry Potter author JK Rowling said: "The plans I've seen look incredibly exciting, and I don't think fans of the books or films will be disappointed."
Touted as a "theme park within a theme park", it will feature attractions and rides based on Harry Potter locations.
Based inside Orlando's Islands of Adventure theme park, which already houses Marvel Super Heroes and Dr Seuss islands, the Harry Potter theme will be spread over 20-acres.
'Authentic'
Oscar-winning production designer Stuart Craig, who has worked on the Harry Potter films, is leading the creative design for the park to ensure it remains faithful to JK Rowling's vision.
"Our primary goal is to make sure this experience is an authentic extension of Harry Potter's world as it is portrayed in the books and films," he said Craig.
The Harry Potter series of books has been translated into 65 languages with more than 325 million copies sold worldwide.
The films, produced by Warner Bros, have grossed more than $3.5bn (£1.7bn) at the box office worldwide.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth film in the series, will open in cinemas on 13 July 2007.
The seventh and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be published on 21 July.
I wonder if you'll have to go through on a roller coaster through Gringotts in order to get to an ATM.
Slightly OT, I didn't know that the Deathly Hallows was cast in stone as the final book.
"The rest of the poem plays upon that pun. On the contrary, says Catullus, although my verses are soft (molliculi ac parum pudici in line 8, reversing the play on words), they can arouse even limp old men. Should Furius and Aurelius have any remaining doubts about Catullus' virility, he offers to fuck them anally and orally to prove otherwise." - Catullus 16, Wikipedia

I don't know about that. It seems like it'll be a part of universal studios, kinda like Tomorrowland or Frontierland at the Disney theme park, which means it won't be the only thing drawin gpeople in.
Unless I completely don't understand the article, that is.
Stuart: The only problem is, I'm losing track of which universe I'm in.

Putting it in tropical Florida and then trying to get people to think they're in temperate England: Thumbs waaayyy down.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around! If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!! Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

Hey, I've seen fake snow made at Universal before...
Besides, Epcot already has many other countries (including England) already in the area, all a short walk from one another (yes, from Norway to Mexico in only a few hundred steps). Tis no different.
I enjoy the books just fine, but I'm not thrilled about the idea of a theme park. Guess it'll be cool for the kids. They did smaller scale stuff with Star Wars and Star Trek so I don't see why they wouldn't milk Potter too.
Kill me now. For the love of sweet merciful Q, kill meeeee NOOOOWWWW!!!!!!!!!!

You're assuming the franchise doesn't have legs. It does. It's a god damn centipede. Like Star Wars, there are so many different facets of the universe that other writers and filmmakers can explore, and there's a huge core audience that will eat all of it up after the last Potter book comes out.

Who has the rights to expanding the Harry Potter universe? JK Rowling? Didn't she say she wants to end it after 7 books?
Unless you have a George Lucas, who can expand something into an empire like he did with Star Wars, I don't see a huge future for it after the books and the movies. There will be interest, especially with more people reading it, but I don't know if it would sustain a park. Star Wars doesn't have a park even. Just a ride right?

She'll change her mind. There's too much demand, and she'll eventually meet some author or filmmaker that she'll really like, and she'll say, "I want to see Harry Potter with this guy's spin."

Don't worry, after she finishes off the deathly hallows, we get to look forward to the slew of EU books.
