American = Wasteful? When did this start?

I have no real interest in knowing my neighbors. I try not to bother the people that live around me and they seem to do the same. It was like that when I lived in Florida, too. Yet when we had the hurricanes, people still went and helped eachother if they could. The way I feel about it is that I'd rather be friends with, and associate with people based on their personality, rather than how close they live to me. But I can see the benefit of having a very close knit community, too.

Yeah, I have no real desire to know my neighbors in the city either, I don't think this is gonna change when we move to a nicer neighborhood either. So while city-livin' doesn't cause me to want to socialize, rather the opposite in fact. But it does expose you to different types of people.

Though looking at examples from sweden and finland this isn't always positive, it's frequently the blue collar people in the suburbs where there are lots of immigrants who turn out to be the most anti-immigration while ironically enough country folks here who have never seen an immigrant are more in favor of immigration. Ofcourse integration has worked so much better out here in half-rural municipalities such as ours for some reason than in the cities and suburbs. We've had lots of good results with vietnamese immigrants and now my municipality (pop 2200) just recieved a group of refugees from Burma.

When at the end of World War II, we left tons and tons of shit behind because it cost more to ship it back home than simply letting it rust, even if it was brand new!

To add onto this: every time we sent a military unit over to a less affluent nation(third world shithole when being honest with ourselves), we end up having units toss loads of useful material into the dumpsters because it's just not worth bothering to get home, and the natives promptly grab it all up. If I were them, I'd consider us a bunch of wasteful fuckers too.
