Seven Wonders Of The Industrial World On DVD

Post by Admiral Valdemar »

Just got my copy of this acclaimed series on DVD from Play.com today having only noticed it was out this January on Friday. The lucky bastards in Australia got this long before we did so I was almost going to import, thankfully I waited.

Anyway, if you loved any of the brilliant civil engineering wonders featured, you should really get this. It's quite simply the best documentary series I have ever seen (topping even the Walking With... series). The BBC repeated it enough times so I'm glad it got a DVD release since the book is just the facts, not the drama etc.

I wish I could get a copy of the soundtrack too now.

Well, since you ask, the Brooklyn Bridge is the only bridge, but it's a fine example of one.

The episodes are:
  • *The Great Ship (Brunel's The Great Eastern)
    *The Brooklyn Bridge
    *The Bell Lighthouse
    *The Hoover Dam
*The Line (The Western railroad across the US)
*The Sewer King (The creation of the London sewer network)
    *The Panama Canal

Had it in Australia for a while - watched the DVD a while back, after watching the series... 19th Century Britain was awesome.

And I think that the Bell Rock lighthouse was the best episode.

Yeah, the DVD came out there as soon as the series showed where as we had to wait two years nearly.

That lighthouse I have to visit. The fact that they could work on it for only afew days a year is amazing.
