Timothy Zahn or Aaron Anderson?
Okay, since you guys simply CAN NOT agree on who is better, I need a poll to see exactly who thinks who is better.....or how many of you. Whatever.

I just get mildly nauseous unless I've been eating Chinese food. Then I get ill. Something about Chinese food and KJA...good thing I ate a Philly Cheese Steak tonight, instead of getting Mongolian BBQ.Mr Bean wrote:You seem to forget how every thinks about KJA (*Spits on ground) Thats the normal reaction when people hear of the work of KJA(Spits)Ok, then the Anderson you speak of....

Major EU Novelists:
Micheal Stackpole: X-Wing comics, X-Wing novels 1-4 and 8, NJO Dark Tide duology, I, Jedi, and a few short stories (some of them w/ Zahn). He and Zahn are good buddies. Has done work for BattleTech.
Aaron Allston: X-Wing novels 5-7 and 9, NJO Enemy Lines duology. Generally well-liked by near all those who've read his novels. Very enjoyable and competently written, IMHO.
Kevin J. Anderson: Jedi Academy Trilogy, Darksabre, and the Young Jedi Knights and Junior Jedi Knights young adult novels. Worked on the Sith War, and Knights of the Old Republic comic series, off-and-on with the writter of the Dark Empire comic series trilogy, Tom Vietch. Generally loathed by technical-thinking and specifics-aware readers, esp. Zahn's fans.
Timothy Zahn: Jump-started the New Republic-era novel EU under Bantam in 1991 with the release of Bestseller Heir to the Empire. The other two novels of what became unofficially known as the "Thrawn Trilogy," Dark Force Rising and The Last Command, were also very successful. Generally loved by those who deride Anderson. Anderson sucked up more to the general Bantam/Dark Horse whimiscal treatment of detail while Zahn derided the idea of the Emperor's resurrection and refused to cooperate with Vietch and his Dark Empire storyline, forcing it into a time slot after the "Thrawn Trilogy," rather then before, rendering many of Thrawn's gains and danger irrelevent in light of the immediately following greater threat of Palpatine. Also accused of disregarding the earlier Marvel comic series and one-upping Anderson's trilogy with his revisionist history in his Hand of Thrawn duology that wrapped up the Bantam line. His detracters are limited mostly to canon-obsessive fans of Dark Empire and the Marvel line for his percieved insults to their prefered works. Well loved on this forum by myself and others.

Zahn is the best EU writer out there. Aaron Allston is pretty funny, but he's not as good as Zahn. Avoid KJA is you value your brain.

How about this: Take all the authors, put them in a poll for me, vote on which one I should start with, and be done with it.

In that case, just read em in Chronological order. Of course avoid KJA's work at all costs.verilon wrote:How about this: Take all the authors, put them in a poll for me, vote on which one I should start with, and be done with it.

The only hard part is the crap that KJA establishes...
while Zahn is some great stuff KJA is the only other person aside from him and Stackpole to have their charcters intergrated into the EU. Still one can avoid it like the plague but some reference and character growth will look rather odd.

Not really. The only thing he did that's had a real effect on the EU has been Jedi Academy trilogy and you can get most of that in a much more palatable form in I,Jedi. Darksaber is really a throw away in terms of reall effect.Ghost Rider wrote:The only hard part is the crap that KJA establishes...

Darksaber was really bad, even by KJA standards. And I'm actually surprised at the unanimous vote.

Definitely Zhan. If it wasn't for "Heir to the Empire", I wouldn't have even touched the novels.
