Your earliest childhood memories

Post by PainRack »

Well, what would be the earliest childhood memories you can think of? You know, the furthest back you can remember and go "I think, therefore, I am."?

For me, my earliest memory will be a fish tank and a door closing. Judging from photographic records, that make it approximately the age of 4.

My first clear memories were when I was 4 - but I have some kind of faint memories from when I was a couple of months old. Not remembering the actual situation but knowing that I were in certain places, etc

First memory is probably being lifted up onto a pony. I was probably 2 at the time.

Two other early memories were riding in a car to some sort of office and my dad spitting out blood into the sink all day. Later on I learned that the two were connected - my dad had a wisdom tooth or two extracted that day. I was probably around 3 at the time.

I can remember a bit when I was 4, such as remembering about thinking.

I can remember a few things I did in preschool, and I guess I was about 4 or 5 at the time.

Must've been 2 or 3, learning how to walk, and I think i have very vague memories of learning how to cral. I also remember my first word being "Hoov" when I was fleeing the demonic hoover to the couch, and jumping down the stairs, but weirdly, i have these crystal clear memories of being able to fly (if not land very well).

The memories have me leaving the stairs and slowly floating down the stairs and then having fairly messy landings where it all sped up again. One time I tried to show my mum but it was fast the whole way down and I banged my ankle on the phone on the way down, had to get it Xrayed.

My very earliest memory comes from, I believe when I am about 1 year old and Im in the hospital and they are feeding me green jello. The memory itself is just a brief shot of a bowl of green jello in front of me and I vaguely recall not liking it. I also have a few brief shots of the spinning toys in the crib I was in. This is confirmed by my mom who recalls it as well. Around that time I had been quite sick and couldnt keep anything down so they took me to the hospital and I stayed their for a little while and one of the things they got me to eat was green jello.

The earliest memories after that are when I am about 3. Nothing really eventful though. The one that sticks out the most is me sitting on the ground outside a house playing with a black roller skate with red wheels.

A couple of instances of blurred underwater surroundings (I nearly drowned twice when I was less than 4 years old) and some vague memories from when I was around 3 or so and we were at the wedding of my mom's cousin. Also my great-grandma's face.

The one thing that I remember most clearly is a snapshot of a patch of summer sky with hazy cloud gauze, seen from between strands of barbed wire. That was when I got bored, left the party all by myself and made my way 200 or 300 yards down the road to my great grandma's house, only I took a shortcut across the field that was right between there, which is why the barbed wire image. Needless to say, my disappearing act caused more than a mild panic, especially since there's a deep and fast-flowing river just behind the house the wedding reception was held at, and by the time my uncle (same one who a year or two later saved me from drowning) found me blissfully sleeping in my bed at great-grandma's, they were already talking to the sheriff on the phone and discussing dredging the river...

Hows that possible, i thought the human memory didn't form unti the age of 2.

For me it would be the memories of being at my grandmothers house in VA. i was about 2. you see my memory goes back to 1982 or 1983. Also my earliest memory happens to be the 1982 christmas season when i got a slot car racing set and my little sister got a piano ( one of them acoustic little kid pianos).

I can barely recall any of my childhood memories but what was most impressionable to me was watching C3PO and R2D2 in a kiddie show. That stuck in my mind ever since.

I have a few really early memories, so far back I can't tell which one is actually the earliest. I distinctly remember throwing the cat down the rec room stairs when I was maybe three (it's only five stairs, so the cat was unharmed). I have a very faint one of spilling a bottle of auto touch up paint on the bathroom floor (it took years for the last of it to wear away, and some of it might still have been there when the old flooring was ripped up and replaced with new tile), an incident my parents say happened was I was about two and a half. And I have one which is probably later, falling off a tricycle in my grandmother's driveway--I might have been four at the time.

My parents and I lived in a ghetto apartment in Paterson, NJ when I was little. I was almost three when I was standing up against the brick wall of the apartment building and someone in a huge car was driving really fast in the parking lot and almost hit me. Another time someone stole my sled from the front porch of our building, and for some reason I also remember our neighbour's carpet was a godawful mustardy-brown colour and he had a parrot that talked a lot.

Somewhere around 2, 2.5 years old, my cousin hits me over the head with a plastic cow, smiles, and says my name. I know the general age vicinity because we moved away after that and I never saw her again.

Somewhere around the age of 3 watching something science-fictionish on TV... I was into science fiction from pretty much day one, y'see.

Let's see...
  • bashed head against fire hydrant
  • finger caught in power outlet
  • cut finger on razor
  • staple went into gum
  • walked into mom changing
As far as I know, all this happened before I turned five. I think.

18 months old.

My mom 7 months or so pregnant, and we were at my grandparents swimming in the pool.

The pool was above ground, with the ugliest green plastic shag style carpet on the wood.

Mom and Dad are still amazed I remember it. Mom thought it was just from pictures until I told her the liner color of the pool (which was not in pictures)

I don't know how old I was. I think it was when I began crawling. I saw my dad at the end of the hall and crawled to him, he was happy and smiling at me, urging me on. That's the farthrest I can remember. I don't know if it was a true memory or something I imagined. :(

The only distinct memory I have was of eating rhubarb leaves when I was about 3 or 4, and then spending the night in the hospital having been given something to make me throw up for a good portion of it.

Falling down in front of the step in our house in prospect while trying to walk. It wasn't a hard fall or anything. We moved out of that house when I was about 10 months old, so it was from before then.
