Sword Vs a .50 Cal

Awsome Sword. Not any littlle Desert eagle either, a Browning .50 caliber machine gun, it eventually breaks after splitting multiple bullets.

The 50 cal will ruin the day of the guy who holds the sword - so I'd take the gun as well.

Well the .50 cal technically did beat the sword in the end

Still impressive, considering .50 BMG ball ammo can rip through more than an inch of RHA at close range...

Well, the sword only held up that long by splitting the rounds in half. As soon as the edge chipped away, that was all she wrote.

Also, not all the bullets hit the exact same spot on the sword: if they had, I seriously doubt it would have take more than 3 hits...

Not likely: Remember, the halfs of the bullets continue travelling past the blade after they've been split by it...

Well, some of the bullets fragmented immediately, so they would have gotten hit with what amounts to birdshot(painful, but not deadly), but some of them only glanced off the blade, and continued whole.

Moderately impressive. Even the material of ball ammo isn't all that hard compared to hardened high-carbon steel, so it's not surprising that the sword would split the bullets in half. Basically, it's a high speed variation of cutting a mild steel bar or cable with a sword, which is something that can be done with most high quality swords without breaking them. As for what finally broke the sword, it's not that the edge was broken off & dulled and thus couldn't cut the bullets anymore, rather, it has to do with the way the sword is heat treated. The sword has a very hard edge and a soft body & spine, you can see this in the temper lines in some of the angles. Once the hard edge has chipped away, the rest of the sword is relatively soft so the bullet just blows right through it.

Now if they did use those fancy Raufoss rounds with the tungsten carbide penetrator, the sword would most likely be toast after one hit.

You could get the same effect against that sword from WWII-era M2 AP or M8 API, which needless to say are alot more common and less expensive than the Raufoss rounds...

Hmm perhaps I didn't write clearly enough, let me clarify.

The narration is in Japanese.

The overlain subtitles are again in Japanese. (This is the funny part)

The overlaid subtitles are in Korean.

Then again it could be for the hearing impaired so just kindly disregard this post.
