I prefer The Simpsons, over the years it's made me laugh so much it's not funny.
Futurama was good at times, but just couldn't surpass the best of the Simpsons.

The Simpsons is a classic.
But...
Futurama is The Simpsons of the future, with more potential, with characters and a setting that gives more room for wacky and zay yet uncontrieved plots (I mean, aside from the Treehouses of Terror, when do you see aliens threatening to eat Homer?). With visual eye candy, Jesus, their space battles just rock. With shitloads of space-age stupidity. With more pop-culture references. It has practically everything The Simpsons has and MORE! Its potential is limitless! The Simpsons was a sitcom, which is rather limited, Futurama is a space opera, which is limitless. So if Futurama did go as long as The Simpsons, it's really quite possible that Homer would have to bite Bender's shiny metal ass.

I preferred Futurama, since crazy adventures fit that setting far better, and there's more potential to explore.

I think Simpsons was better overall, though the quality is really suffering now that story lines and characters are exhausted. I would have prefered that the Simpons get a grand final episode, with Futurama taking the place of the departed legend.

I like Futurama more. They had more coherencey and Bender was just something that for all the Simpsons' had; never did get a character of such sheer vile nature, but at the same time lovableness.

Futurama rocks simply for the more memorable characters. they really should stop pumping out the umpteenth season of the simpsons (which i stopped watching around season 7 or 8 ) and bring back futurama. there's only so many times you can flog a dead horse.

Futurama, easily. Futurama has been consistantly better and the best of Futurama easily beats the best of the Simpsons.
It's better in terms of writing overall. For instance, take the episodes "Luck of the Fryish" and "Godfellas" from the third season. Not only were they funny, they were excellent pieces of television. Futurama was loaded with episodes that were simply superb, like "Fry's Holophoner Opera", "Time Keeps on Slipping", and the one with Fry's Dog. Plus, there were some truly hilarious episodes, like just about anyone where Zapp Branagan is a major character ("Let's show these freaks what a bloated runaway defense budget can do!"), the episodes with Robot Santa, and the episode where they had the entire surviving cast of the Original StarTrek on. Futurama consistant delivered the whole way through.
Plus, there characters were alot better. Unlike the Simpsons, the main characters of Futurama had honest to god actual character development and didn't have any quick payoffs. It took five seasons of events, situations, and character growth for Fry and Leela to finally get together and it happened in an organic and beautiful way. I loved the way "Fry's Holophoner Opera" because of that. When Leela is the only person in the audience after Fry gives up the Robot Devil's hands and therefore his ability to play the holophoner and she says "I'd like to see how it ends", then the shoddy looking holographic Leela and Fry walk into the distance, I found myself tearing up.
Not to mention that they put alot more stake in series consistancy and the little details. Alot of the tiny details in it, like seeing Nibbler in the first episode in the past and it being addressed much much later in the series was great. Also, you always see Bender drinking the same set of Robot Beers (Old Fortran, for instance) and they put alot of little gags in the background or foreground and not draw attention to it. What comes to mind was in the gym in "Why Must I Be a Crustation in Love?" (another excellent episode) and they walk by a lady lifting weights. You don't see how she's lifting them and the machine is labelled the "Kegelcizer". I cracked up when I first saw that. And the dialogue has funnier bits. In the episode where Zoidberg goes to Hollywood to visit his Uncle to make that horrible movie, Calculon utters a hilarious line to Bender at his door; "What? Do you have an extra Go To 10 line?" That was so excellent, if you caught it.
Meanwhile, the Simpsons is a corpse that should have been gracefully retired ages ago. Now it's just a collection of "See Homer get messed up" or "The Simpsons go to <insert location>" or topical humor from 8 months ago. It used to be decent, but now it's just played out. And even the best of the Simpsons can't hold up to the best of Futurama. I'll put "Fry's Holophoner Opera" or "Godfellas" against any Simpsons episode without a doubt.

It depends: Simpsons is past its prime now, but then again, in the past, its had some of the funniest shows ever: Scorpio, and such.
In the short time it existed, Futurama was a much more solid show, with more adventure, better character, pop culture references, and such before FOX cut it. However, it didn't have long enough to pan out.

Homer is lame now. He's just a vector for shock humor or dumb physical comedy. He completely lacks the character he used to.wautd wrote:Your opinion. NOT mine

The first five or six seasons of the Simpsons are classic, perhaps the best comedy ever made. Since then, the show has gone down the crapper as far as I'm concerned. The last episode I watched (back when I was a huge fanboy for the Simpsons) was the one where Bart got a race horse. After that, I knew the show was dead.
Futurama was a solid and funny show, but it seemed to be just finding its stride when it was cancelled. That makes it hard to compare to the Simpsons. Personally, I would prefer it to most epiodes of the Simpsons, except for the classics.

Futurama is new and good, the simpsons should have simply cancelled years ago and made way for squeaky clean goodness that is Bender's shiny metal ass. Or Universe 1's Bender's glorious golden ass.
