"Either God wants to abolish evil, and cannot; or he can, but does not want to. ... If he wants to, but cannot, he is impotent. If he can, but does not want to, he is wicked. ... If, as they say, God can abolish evil, and God really wants to do it, why is there evil in the world?" -Epicurus

Ah...now that will earn you momentary distrust.

An oldie but goodie variation of throwing the ball multiple times and one last time not to...and seeing him dart into the open looking for it. :D

My favourite is throwing two balls at the same time in different directions and watching as the dog runs almost halfway between each repeatedly trying to figure out which one it wants more...

My dog's a border collie. She doesn't fall for that.

She'll just sit there and make me get them.

I know a few dogs like that, where you throw a ball and it will stare at you transmitting its thoughts of "Why the hell did you throw that ball away? It was a perfectly good goddamn ball?" directly into your mind.

Is it just me, or are Border Collie's smart fucking dogs? My friend has one, and to get it to leave the room, I'll sometimes pretend to throw something down the hall. She only fell for that once. She must listen for thud or something.

I believe they once taught a border collie to identify over 300 different objects. It had the intelligence of a 3 year old child.

My mom and dad once had an Aussie Sheppard. they had to go to court. At the time they lived in San Fran. They left it sitting on a streat corner outside of the court house and told him to stay. 3 hours later when they got out of court he was still there. He'd also stay in their convertable if they told him to. He'd get up on his haunches and sit up in the front seat.

Heh, looks sort of like something my guy would do. Only sometimes, he manages to confuse himself without my help. 15 second attention span.

Border Collies in particular and herding breeds in general are brilliant as dogs go. They are damn clever little guys. They learn very quickly indeed.
