Children, young and old, are filled with Christmas excitement
The seasons are changing, slowly but surely. Chilly winds invade our hills and bring an end to the autumn weather. November has tucked her brown robes around her and departed swiftly, clearing the way for snowflakes and the cold month of December.
The trees stand stark and bare, their feet covered deep under fallen leaves. The land is being lulled to sleep, covered with a brown blanket of leaves. Soon a counterpane of white will cover the leaves, and the earth will be tucked in for the winter. It is resting time for the land after a season of growth — a well-deserved slumber until spring arouses the hills once again.
December is a delightful month, especially for the children, filled with holiday excitement, snowballs and sleigh rides, carols and Christmas. She wears a definite fragrance compounded of crisp, cold air, the piney scent of evergreens, warm candle wax, and the cinnamony smell of fresh-baked cookies. She travels these hills in a long, white gown with snowflakes in her hair, and frost sparkling underfoot.
Her voice is sweet and musical, echoing Christmas carols and silver bells, joyous shouts of red-cheeked children, and the soft spat of snow against the window pane. She sparkles with snow-sprinkled hemlocks; her nighttime sky is filled with myriad stars that seem to glow bigger and brighter than at any other time of the year.
Her colors contrast sharply, with the flash of a red cardinal against her snowy slopes, and the bright crimson holly berries clustered against the glossy green of its leaves. Her voice is a little sharper in the chill wind that howls around the eaves and oft times comes shrieking through the bare branches of the trees.
The child in all of us feels an excited thrill at the changing of the seasons; still we greet her with mixed emotions. Her appearance means that our outdoor days in the mild fall temperatures are over for the year. We had a gorgeous fall season with no reason to complain. Now it is the season to crack a bowl of black walnuts, dig out the favorite candy and cookie recipes, and indulge the family with some luscious goodies.

This was written by one of my many cousins, who has the good fortune to be a regular columnist in the paper. I'm sharing it, because it's so beauiful. If this is the wrong forum, please move it where it should be.

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.
