Point. Rugged is James Bond some of the time - most of the time he's immaculate and well groomed.
Hell he doesn't even begin to fit the other bits I brought up...of being Handsome in any sense of maturity or manly in shape.

Literally he fits pretty...even in Pirates where they try to give him rugged...he looked still looked too pretty.
I cannot stress this enough: I fucking HATE Pirates of the Caribbean. Orlando Bloom and Jonny Depp were major contributing factors towards that strong reaction.

Basically you had pretty boy teaming up with... pretty nancy boy. Versus the Legions of the Dead and Forces of Darkness. They tried to give Orlando a rugged look, and failed miserably. It doesn't help when he has zero charisma and lacks acting skills.

It would be interesting to have him paired with someone who's less prone to taking risks and more careful in his actions.
You mean like what I suggested? :P

I - *goes back, rereads thread carefully* - er, whoops.

Yeah, exactly what you said. To be fair I was replying to Valdemar and I didn't read your post originally. But essentially your idea is what they should put serious thought into.

They could also take the time to explain how James Bond keeps dramatically changing appearances, but remaining more-or-less the same age (and, also, how there can be so many double-0 agents). All they would need to do is say that the young guy is supposed to be the next James Bond, and that whenever the current 007 decides to retire then they select their next best agent to be the new one and to inherit the call-number and name.

That idea doesn't work for a number of reasons. One, you would have to apply the same standard to Felix Leiter, who has had at least four actors playing hum. Same with Moneypenny who has had three actresses playing her part. The more important point though, is that there IS some internal continuity. Bond gets married in OHMSS, the Lazenby film. His wife, Tracy, gets killed at the end. In For Your Eyes Only, he visits the grave, by this time Bond is played by Moore, and there is also a reference to this marriage in Licence to Kill, when Della, Leiter's new wife goes to throw her garter at Bond and he refuses. Leiter explains that he's been married before.

Hmmm... now that I put even a tiny amount of thought into it, you're right.

I personally like the idea of the cautious young recruit, with 007 showing him how it's really done, throwing the Book away and all. But it would be better if he dies because of his hesitant cautious ways at the end. Which would leave a Bond for the next film. :) But as it has been said before, some of these latest films have been lower quality than their predecessors. Maybe what they need is a break, let some younger writers into the game? Just wait a few years before the next one, let some fresh talents come up. I think not a single actor is currently qualified for the job. But then again, wasn't Brosnan a taxi driver before he was picked to play Bond?

What I think is interesting is the product placements. In Tomorrow Never Dies, his car was BMW, which was alright, but when he stole that motorcycle, it just happened to be a BMW too....
