On a similar vein to hitting Rice below the ovaries, it's interesting to see how people that actually do have kids in Iraq handle it. About 1:50 seconds in, if you want to skip the bit about her hyping her book.

I frankly, have no sympathy. She's railed on about how we need to support Bush and his war in Iraq. She's derided Cindy Sheehan for not being proud that her son sacrificed himself for his country. It's only when it's going to be her kid in danger does she understand.

Abstract vs. experienced. It runs the same way with alot of GOP politicians as well; they are opposed to things that would aid others until they have personal contact(See Stem cell research for a fine example).

A number of psychological conditions can inhibit the ability to process such abstractions, but the most common(And most to stir shit up, which let's face it, I love doing) is psychopathy.

I think the reason she's such a shameless gay-basher is because she thinks (rightly) that she might be responsible for a number of people being homosexuals. I've always found it funny how she bills herself on an advice show as "Dr." Laura, when her Ph.D is in physiology. That and how she has more psychological issues than half of her callers...

I love how her advice to women who have children in daycare is to quit their job, and take some new one working graveyeard shifts. Because apparently in her fucked up world it's better to leave your child home alone at night then come home and sleep all day leaving your child unsupervised, alone, and essentially never seeing them, rather than putting them in daycare where they will be watched, and have social interaction with other children.

Yeah, she get's around that lack of a psychiatric degree by classifying her show as entertainment and not therapy... not that that ever gets mentioned on air.
