Well, I don't hate it, but I don't know anything about it beyond that a couple dorks I work with apparently play it quite often. So I didn't get most of what was going on.

Plus, it felt like a retread of multiple other episodes, and failed to have any sort of point. I mean, sure, some players of online games are losers, but... so? Did they really need to point this out?

Here's hoping for the return of Mel next week.

We only just got the darth chef episode in the UK
I think it's going to be like Galactica or Stargate were in previous seasons, you guys are going to run right into the new episodes. Over here we had to wait however many months.

This one was a hoot. Too bad they didn't touch on ninja looting.

I'm not into WoW, but that was one FUNNY episode. Great lines. . . and I have to take my hat off to the animators for pulling off another episode with extra-South Park type characters, and doing so very well! :D

Yes! My cable worked perfectly last night! Truly hilarious. I wonder how much involvement Blizzard actually had in crafting the episode.

Even though I don't play WoW, I desperately want a t shirt that says "Cartman is my guild leader" with a picture of him in front of the computer.

Even though it's obviously based on WoW, the actual premise of the episode is basically a thinly-veiled reference to the .hack franchise. Read the article and think about it for a moment.

I loved it, I especially liked how they had proper in game footage and used the WoW engine to make a proper cinematic-looking part.

I seriously doubt that Matt and Trey would be making deliberate references to .Hack. That would be obscure in the extreme.

.

I doubt they were actually involved.

But, as the Episode in question is given a shout-out on Blizzard's home page I suspect they had their blessing. Or at least knew that it was in good fun.

You're probably right; it might as well be coincidence.

From what I've read, Matt and Trey did enlist Blizzard's assistance with the machinima sequences; Mike Morhaime and Rob Pardo even had actual speaking parts, I think.

I experienced a wave of laughter when watching this episode. Cartman had some hilarious lines; his comments to Clyde about Hitler and the French, "Butters, go down to the store, buy World of Warcraft, install it on your computer and join the online sensation before we all murder you." and of course his awesome plan to kill millions of boars.

Best episode I've seen in a long time.

Almost Certainly. Judging from the episode synopsis about the only real similarity that stands out (other than both taking place within MMORPGs) is between the functions of the Sword of 1000 Truths and the Twilight Bracelet, and even then only their function in the story is similar, they're respective backgrounds are completely different.

I think it's just a case that there are certain storylines/concepts that immediately spring to mind in any fictional story concerning MMORPGs, and .hack was the first major franchise to use them. Heck, I'd be surprised if .hack was even the first piece of sci-fi to utilise most of them.

Anyway back to the topic at hand, while the episode doesn't sound like it's going to be particularly scathing satire (let's not kid around, it's blatent product placement) it does sound hilarious. As a WoW player I can't wait for this one to hit the UK.

I particularly like the line "I don't wanna start over at the graveyard!" And the reference to a song when Cartman speaks in French. I do not remember the name of the song.

It was 'Voulez-vous coucher avec moi'.

Be sure to tune in to tomorrow's new episode of South Park, as Cartman will be presenting a Powerpoint presentation on what really happened on 9/11.

I guess he just can't resist bragging.
I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!
