Young Conservative attempts to seduce CNN Reporter and fails

Our Documentary Takes A Strange Detour
Posted: 07:46 AM ET

By Abbie Boudreau
CNN Investigative Correspondent

(Programming note: "Right On The Edge" airs this Saturday and Sunday at 8 and 11 p.m. ET).

I've been a reporter for nine years. My first official day on the job was on 9-11. I was the bureau chief in Dubuque, Iowa, working as a one-man band. I shot my own video, set up my own live shots, and edited my own stories. I would bring home the police scanner to make sure the nights were quiet in this modest town along the grand Mississippi River. Only one time, in my year and two months working there, did that scanner wake me up. (It would be the first murder story I covered. I remember being one of the first reporters to show up. The police were hosing down the blood off the sidewalk, and the bloody water washed over my shoes. It's something you don't forget.) Those days were long, and physical. I would go home and count the bruises on my legs and arms. There was nothing glamorous about this life. But that's what I liked about it. I was a reporter – and I was proud of that.

As a woman in the news industry you have to be tough. I have always had to work harder than my male counterparts to be taken seriously and to be treated with respect. As a woman in the news industry you have to ignore all of the silly talk from your managers about the clothes you should wear on-air or what color your hair should be. I have had my share of conversations like that, and to be honest, it stings. I'm left wondering, "When will my work stand on its own? Why does this always have to be part of the conversation?"

Recently, I was the target of a failed punk. James O'Keefe, the so-called "pimp" in the ACORN expose videos, was participating in a detailed plan to "faux" seduce me on his boat. For months, I had been working on a documentary about the young conservative movement. James had called me about concerns he had regarding an upcoming shoot. He asked me to meet him to talk about the shoot. I agreed to fly to Maryland and then drive to his "office" for a face-to-face conversation with him.

When I showed up, there was no office, as promised. Instead, he wanted to get me on a boat, which we later learned, was staged as a "pleasure palace." One of his colleagues, Izzy Santa, who was in Maryland that day, told me about the plan and stopped the punk before it happened.

Izzy told me he had "strawberries and champagne" waiting for me on the boat, and that he planned to "hit on me" the entire time. She said it would all be captured on hidden cameras that had been set up on the boat and in the back yard. She said the sole purpose of the "punk" was to embarrass me, and to make CNN look bad.

I would soon learn the details of the plan, in a 13-page document titled, "CNN Caper."

It explains the type of equipment needed to stage the boat for our meeting. Here is how the document reads:

Equipment needed

a. Video

1. hidden cams on the boat

2. tripod and overt recorder near the bed, an obvious sex tape machine

b. Props

1. condom jar

2. dildos

3. Music

a. Alicia keys

b. 80s romance songs, things that are typically James

c. avoid Marvin Gaye as too cliche

4. lube

5. ceiling mirror

6. posters and paintings of naked women

7. playboys and pornographic magazines

8. candles

9. Viagra and stamina pills

10. fuzzy handcuffs

11. blindfold

James was supposed to tape the following script before the meeting on the boat.

"My name is James, I work in video activism and journalism. I've been approached by CNN for an interview where I know what their angle is: they want to portray me and my friends as crazies, as non-journalists, as unprofessional and likely as homophobes, racists or bigots of some sort…"

"Instead, I've decided to have a little fun. Instead of giving her a serious interview, I'm going to punk CNN. Abbie has been trying to seduce me to use me, in order to spin a lie about me. So, I'm going to seduce her, on camera, to use her for a video. This bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who comes on at five will get a taste of her own medicine, she'll get seduced on camera and you'll get to see the awkwardness and the aftermath."

"Please sit back and enjoy the show."

It explains very simply what "the joke" is.

"The joke is that the tables have turned on CNN. Using hot blondes to seduce interviewees to get screwed on television, you are faux seducing her in order to screw her on television."

It goes on to explain how James should "adapt" to my mood on the boat.

"As the operation is going on, James will have to adapt and adjust to her mood and her reaction. If she is pulling away, withdraw and pull her back in. If she's unsure, comfort her and reassure her. Vacillate between somewhat serious interview and the come-hither persona as needed in order to confuse her judgment and also keep her on the boat."

James says that he wasn't really going to follow through with the plan. He e-mailed CNN this statement:

"That is not my work product. When it was sent to me, I immediately found certain elements highly objectionable and inappropriate, and did not consider them for one minute following it."

But that does not appear to be true, according to a series of emails we obtained from Izzy Santa, who says the e-mails reveal James' true intentions.

All of this is so disappointing. I never wanted to become a part of the story – especially under such strange circumstances.

I have worked so hard to have people pay attention to my work, and to be a respected journalist. I don't want to be judged based on anything other than my work. But apparently, I represent all of the things this group hates about the mainstream media. They feel because of the way I look that I do not matter, and that my reporting is a joke. They don't know anything about my work ethic – my history – my dedication and commitment – and my love for reporting. They just saw my blonde hair. And the ironic thing is that I'm really a brunette.
Source
I was laughing from beginning to end of this story. What a fucking douche. Did he really think that she was trying to seduce him? Did he really think that the reporter would find dildos, porn magazines and fuzzy handcuffs lying around seductive?

By the way this is the same guy who was caught attempting to wire tap a senators phone and who pulled that bullshit ACORN stunt, where he dishonestly edited the video to make it look like they supported prostitution.

Really, based on what he pulled with the Acorn bullshit this sounds exactly like something he would try. Hopefully this will bite this little shit stain in the ass, and hard.

Maybe the trail will also go further up to someone at Faux News or the Republican party.

Why waste a jail cell on this fuckwit when we can just piss ourselves laughing at him?

Fellow Replicon Andrew Breitbart is unhappy:
Breitbart disowns O’Keefe, demands apology for failed ‘love boat’ prank

Breitbart disowns OKeefe, demands apology for failed love boat prank

Conservative media personality Andrew Breitbart is backtracking from his association with right-wing prankster James O'Keefe for his failed, sexually explicit "love boat" sting against a female CNN anchor, demanding his longtime ally apologize to fans.

"[In] my dealings with [CNN reporter Abbie] Boudreau, she and her producer, Scott Zamost, conducted themselves professionally, and I believe James owes them a candid and public explanation," Breitbart wrote Friday evening.

"From what I’ve read about this script, though not executed, it is patently gross and offensive. It’s not his detractors to whom he also owes this public airing. It’s to his legion of supporters."

Both right-wing figures have been criticized for less-than-honest attacks in the media. Breitbart was a highly vocal defender of O'Keefe after the prankster crafted a deliberately misleading attack on anti-poverty group ACORN, which Republicans had long cast as a bogeyman potentially working to steal elections.

When O'Keefe and fellow conservative activist Hannah Giles released the tapes last fall, purporting to show ACORN employees advising them on how to set up a child prostitution ring, the story was promoted heavily by Fox News and swallowed uncritically by most of the mainstream media. It resulted in Congress acting to de-fund the organization.

Footage later released by California Attorney General Jerry Brown, who obtained the film in exchange for an agreement not to prosecute O'Keefe, showed the prankster was not actually dressed as a flamboyant "pimp" when he visited ACORN in San Diego.

The edited video released by O'Keefe appears to show an ACORN employee advising him on how to smuggle underage girls into the United States. O'Keefe is heard off-camera saying, "What things do you need from me in terms of the shipment information," and the employee replies, "It's better if it's in Tijuana ... because I have a lot of contacts in Tijuana." O'Keefe then goes on to say, "There's twelve of them. ... Twelve girls, they're like 13 to 15 years old."

However, the unedited, unreleased footage shows the ACORN employee kept asking for detailed information about the girls, such as when and where they would arrive, along with how he could get in contact with O'Keefe. According to Brown's report [PDF link], after the conservative prankster left, the employee notified police.

But the news came out too late -- Congress had already pulled public funds when the unedited footage was released.

Even in the face of evidence illustrating O'Keefe's dishonest tactics, Breitbart was adamant about defending him. And even after O'Keefe was caught attempting to "interfere with" telephones at Sen. Mary Landrieu's office in Louisiana, he was given space on Breitbart's blog to deny the stunt was an attempt to "wiretap" a public official.

Breitbart's 'protégé'

Breitbart and O'Keefe's media alliance seems logical when the blog mogul's recent controversies are examined with any level of skepticism.

Breitbart was behind a video that triggered the firing of former USDA employee Shirley Sherrod: footage that was offered severely out of context lending itself to a total misrepresentation of the facts, thanks to conveniently deceptive editing.

Once Fox News picked up the footage, which appeared to show Sherrod describing to NAACP members how she denied government aid to a white couple, conservatives across the spectrum took to slandering the black government employee. She was fired a short time later, but video soon surfaced showing her full speech in context.

Turns out her story was about overcoming racist attitudes: Her father was murdered by a white farmer when she was just a girl, Sherrod said, so when she encountered another white farmer many years later, she struggled with her own prejudice and fear, only to become this family's saving grace. Contacted by members of the responsible press, the white couple in question claimed they remained friends with Sherrod, decades after she came to their aid.

Breitbart did not apologize. Sherrod, who declined the offer of a new job in the Department of Agriculture, vowed to sue the right-wing blogger, saying she hopes he gets shut down.

A Fox News anchor later denied the network covered the story until after Sherrod was fired, when they were actually the first to carry Breitbart's video.

The ethical scrape would seem to put O'Keefe and Breitbart in the same class of media: a salacious breed of ideologically-driven press that masquerades as "investigative reporting," which deserves to be treated skeptically by any and all responsible journalists.

One such journalist is CNN's Abbie Bordeau, who agreed to meet with O'Keefe for a series of reports on young conservative activists. When she arrived at his home, O'Keefe's assistant, Izzy Santa, outright told Bordeau that she was about to be the subject of a sexually explicit stunt in which O'Keefe would attempt to lure her onto a boat and seduce her on camera.

"I was prepared for him to videotape me," she said, according to watchdog group Media Matters. "I never believed it would lead to some bizarre Love Boat situation."

She also noted that in documents later released by CNN, O'Keefe and crew referred to Fox News employees as "friendlies" who might help them embarrass CNN by revealing the truth of a false story they'd considered feeding reporters.

Since news of the failed stunt broke, it seems as though Breitbart cannot do enough to distance himself from his one-time "protégé," as Talking Points Memo characterized O'Keefe.

He even went so far as threatening to sue one writer who called O'Keefe part of Breitbart's "crew," and blasted former Air America Radio host Nicole Sandler for suggesting that O'Keefe is Breitbart's "employee".

This is, of course, after Breitbart admitted in January that he pays O'Keefe to publish on his blog.

O'Keefe's last post to Breitbart's site was on Sept. 24.
Anyway, yeah, you'd think that this clown would try to keep his nose clean. I guess he just isn't that bright. :P

You think that's bad?

In January 2010, O'Keefe and three other conservative activists were arrested by the FBI at the federal offices of Senator Mary Landrieu on charges of impersonating phone-company workmen and attempting to tamper with or wiretap Landrieu's phone lines. The initial felony charges were reduced to a misdemeanor of entering a federal building under false pretenses. O'Keefe pled guilty and was sentenced to three years' probation, 100 hours of community service, and a $1,500 fine.

That appears to be the attitude of prosecutors nationwide. There is wisdom in it because if they don't have the evidence for the higher charge they might have the evidence for a lower charge. However, it is frustrating when someone clearly deserves the max, like this douche.

I'm moderately amused that he thinks viagra and stamina pills would help seduce someone. If anything that sends the message "I have no stamina and will probably pop as soon as I stick it in."

This is way lower than I thought even O'Keefe would stoop.

Interestingly, my parents, as conservative as they were, never liked the Young Republicans or the College Republicans. They were only interested in alcohol and girls, I was told, and weren't "social conservatives." This is one thing it appears they were right about.

Because punishing him could deter other equally vile people from doing the same things he did and (for example) bringing down major national charitable organizations.

It's a sad commentary that we've gotten to the point where we need to fall back on enforcing basic laws against criminal misconduct if we are ever to rebuild the wreckage of our political system. There are too many ways for fraudsters to make the situation even worse for us to allow them to operate unpunished.

I mean, where would we be if Nixon could have just gotten away with being caught hiring burglars to enter the offices of his political opposition and rifle through their files looking for dirt on them? Because that's pretty much where we are now; forty years of incoherent opposition and propaganda shilling have made the kind of stunts O'Keefe pulls possible.

I don't think the young republicans ever made an attempt to push for social conservatism. They seems to be pretty OK with gay marriages. It seems that they are in the Republican parties mainly because the party is in line with their support for libertarianism.

From what I read, he wasn't going to rely on his own seduction techniques to get her into bed. He seemed to have the idea that this reporter was going to try to seduce him to get a story, if his own script can be believed, and he was going to use that to "punk" CNN. (Geez, I hate that word as a verb.) It's still a stupid plan, which left him horribly exposed for...just the sort of thing that happened.

Yeah, I posted that to my Facebook last week. The interesting part to me isn't his scumbaggery but his abject stupidity...this whole operation was so far from being a good idea at any point in time that it boggles the mind. The utter contempt with which this group clearly held this woman (as part of the "liberal" media of course) made them forget how social interactions actually worked.

Even at my most awkward I still would've recognized that that guy's "equipment list" to stage his attempted "seduction" doesn't come off as seductive, it comes off as trying too hard and pathetically desperate.

I can't even believe a guy who looks like the love child of Neil Patrick Harris and Will Wheaton thought he had even a prayer of successfully seducing such a successful good looking reporter.

I can't even imagine a scenario that could have been edited to serve his purposes if she hadn't been warned.

What I can't tell is if he thought crafting a cheesy porno set was a deliberate act so that he could market an Abbie Boudreau porno and make her look even more ridiculous or that he actually has the erotic taste of Zapp Brannigan.

To play a bit of the devil's advocate, the cheesy 80s porno boat might have been staged under the (horrifically and abjectly) incorrect belief that she was going to try to seduce him - and oh look, we adjourn to the bed and we're in an 80s porno movie set! Don't you look embarrassed!

That aside... This retarded moron needs to have the book thrown at him. This really was despicable, not to mention monumentally moronic.

Really?

Anyway, there is nothing especially sexy about Viagra. You take Viagra sometime before you have sex. It can take up to 30 minutes before it starts to have an effect. You don't leave it around on the nightstand next to the bottle of bubbly, hoping that the woman will get instantly hot to trot after seeing it, shed her clothes and jump your bones.
