He might be talking about Greco-Roman logic structure, like how to break down a paragraph or essay into logic symbolic structure for analysis. Not that it is all that different from mathematics, since it uses alot of the same operations (If/Thens and the like), but it's applicable to different things.

There was a very similar program for the sciences in my highschool. Students were provided with the option of taking laboratory sciences (bio chem, physics) or dumbed down science courses which just discussed the impact said science on society and it's applications.

Obviously I took lab bio, chem, physics option since I was still deciding what field to go into...

Thanks, Spice Runner. ;) In my case, I distinctly recall that I was a "bare minimum/lowest common denominator" hack in high school who did stuff purely for requirement reasons without actual learning. Then again, I didn't have options, and while my school had majors come junior year, my grades in sophomore year were way too low for any choice (just got AP Environmental Science at random).
