Strange, I thought DS9 did far better than that. DS9 was IMPO possibly the best of the second generation shows, it still compared unfavorably to B5 but so do most SF. I like some consistency, which was severely lacking in TNG. VOY had consistency to burn, it was consistently bad and it was the first ST show that I totaly lost intrest in. ENT was even worse, I thought the initial idea was slightly promising but lost intrest almost immediatly when it became obvious that the writers apparently hadn't noticed that they were writing ENT rather than VOY or TNG.

And DS9 had characters you could like. It didn't have any wanky characters like Captain "invincible" Janeway, or Wesley. Everyone of the characters was limited in some way. Plus, it had continuity, and plenty of eye candy (SFX).

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

I couldn't stand anything relating to the Bajorans. Hell, there could have been evidence that the Cardassians were eating them and I wouldn't have cared less.Stofsk wrote:I liked the Bajoran storylines. It was the standalones I disliked.Bob the Gunslinger wrote:As one of the lost viewers, all I can say is "Bajoran storylines suck."
In my humble opinion, the Bajorans are perhaps the dullest, most uninteresting species I've seen in Star Trek...

I believe in a sign of Zeta.

I didn't watch DS9 on its original run (in 1995, my favorite show was Power Rangers), but I've seen some episodes in reruns and...bleh. I didn't even realize the Bajorans were aliens until somebody mentioned it here (that nose bit is pretty easy to miss).

"The Wire" is the best show in the history of television. Watch it today.

That's one of the biggest problem with Trek. The dumb ass fan's want Trek in that they want their Enterprise with a tight nit group of officers, exploring space and meeting aliens every week.Cpl Kendall wrote:Yeah god forbid that a ST series should show that some SF officers possess questionable moral character. And that they acually have an interesting story line.Spanky The Dolphin wrote: Offended? That sounds laughable. I think you mean "turned off."
Problem being, that is so old and beaten to death, that it is boring.
If you suggest moving in a different direction, but still in the ST universe, they they bitch and moan that it isn't Trek.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

There was one two-parter I liked in Voy, the one with the Krenim Timeship and Red from that 70's show. Maybe it was because we got to see Voyager have the shit kicked out of it.
I also find it strange that DS9's ratings went down as they did. It looks like everyone else gave up on it at the same time I did, lol.
