I was a Huge Sports guy. (namely American Football) I still have a massive Football card Collection to show. But I either burned myself out with my obssesion or just lost interest. (I even remember wanting to be a football Player)

But I do enjoy playing some sports. (not baseball, I suck really bad)

My interest in watching sports is just Pro-Wrestling. And I know that is not a sport.

Beyond that, the main-stream sports don't interest me to watch. Over-paid high-school jocks, nothing more

I have no interest in watching sports. I've always enjoyed playing sports (except little league baseball), but not watching it.

I can't recall ever enjoying it, but I remember going to many, many Angels games when I was younger. Maybe that is why I don't like sports.

I didn't care about sports until about my junior year of high school. Then I went fucking nuts.

Funny thing is that I live in West Redneck, and my local friends don't give much of a damn for sports. I have to go online to get interesting discussions on football.

I have precisely one friend near me who pays any attention whatsoever, and he's a very casual fan of football and basketball who only pays any attention if his favorite teams (Chicago Bears, Dallas Mavericks/Houston Rockets) are doing well.

Personally, partly I enjoy the display of athleticism, along with analysis of the action. I love it in football when I predict a play that's coming up. I love diagnosing a protection scheme breaking down under a blitz. And I love the big plays.

It's all a matter of taste.

I seriously couldn't care any less about most sports unless it's something special like the world cup, olmpics or final grand prix or something. I played plenty of sports in my school days and in my freetime and I can't bring myself to watching others play on TV which is decidedly boring, on the level of watching my nails grow.

I've always had the stance that If I'm gonna do something sports related I might as well play a game of whatever particular sport is being discussed. And since I have all the grace and sports prowess of a two legged, half horned, badly burned and frequently shot rhinoceros...

I've never had any real interest in sports. During the World Cup I caught a few soccer games but that was it and I only ever care about Hockey when the play offs start and even then I only watch a few of the games.

The most boring of the main sports IMO are Golf and Football. If it were up to me I'd turn every golf course into huge go kart racing tracks. Much better and more entertaining use of the space IMO. All those nice hills and turns would make for some fun driving. :P

My interest in sports is extremely limited. On rare ocassion I will watch Tenis or Gold for a short while. If I find something alpine skiing related, I will watch that. I also rather enjoyed watching Basketball for brief periods of time when it was the Chicago Bulls and Jordan was in his prime.

The only time I get excited about sports is when it involves the Olympics. I watch more sports durring those two weeks then I do for two years else wise.

Coyote wrote:While noticing the threads here about the upcoming Super Bowl, I was wondering how many people here-- especially males-- who have no interest in sports whatsoever.

Typically, men are simply expected to enjoy sports. I've had numerous guys try to draw me into conversations about sports, especially around the Super Bowl, and they seem stunned speechless that I have no interest or knowledge whatsoever about this subject that seems so important to them.

As a kid it was hard because if you were a boy and had no interest in sports, you were a 'sissy'. Even as an adult I still find it amusing to run across other guys who really just have no idea what to say to me when it turns out I'm completely uninterested in sports.

I always found the idea of watching other people play games is sort of funny, and frequently tedious. I also grew up alone (no brothers or sisters) and no one on my block my age. But even at school, with the possibility open to me, I found my free time much more valuable.

How about others here-- do you find sports uninteresting? Why, and when did you notice your lack on interest? Do you flat out hate sports, or the people that play them?
I watch the ads of the superbowl. thats the total of my interest.

I have no emotional involvement in the game. they are overpaid kids who havent grown up and gotten a real job. saw an ad yesterday saying sports players are warriors -

trust me. they're not.

I generally don't care about sports. If I'm in a group of guys and there's a game on, I can get into it somewhat, but other than that sports usually don't hold my interest.

The only exception I've found is live hockey, although it's not a big enough exception for me to buy tickets myself.

The only sport I have any interest in whatsoever besides the tabletop varieties and video hockey is rollerball, and that's not even real.

In particular I harbour a good deal of hostility towards high school and college sports, mainly for their additional side effects and attitudes.

Beyond that I cannot even feign interest.

I watch a few sports, mostly for the enjoyment of actually watching the contest, but mostly I don't watch that many sports. I might watch a little football but not much. I used to watch a bit of soccer, cause i played too. For the most part, though, I'm not that into sports.

Mostly I couldn't care less. The only things I watch is international level ice hockey, and even in that only the World Championships and Olympic Hockey (and the Canada Cup when it's held). Ditto football (as in real football, i.e. soccer), Olympic, World Championship and European Championship only. In all of these cases, I don't usually care if I miss a game or two (as long as Finland isn't playing).

Of the individual level sports, ski jumping is a nice one, you can e.g. read a book while watching it, the announcer calling out the names of the good jumpers warrants looking up from the text for a grand total of 15 seconds at a time, then you can go back to the book. Of course, it wouldn't be half as interesting if we didn't have so many good ski jumpers that there is usually a Finn (or several) at or near the top every year.

As for playing sports, I like badminiton and indoor-bandy, that's it.

I used to watch more sports, but as I get older, the sheer absurdity of sitting there for hours on end watching grown men play a child's game wears on me, and the ridiculous player salaries just leave me with a disgusted feeling, so I haven't really watched any sports lately.

I try to watch track&field or any kind of road race when they have it on. Football catches my interest on occasion. Women's beach volleyball will always get my attention.

Well most people over here are cricket - freaks, but I never understood the fun in watching 22 man stand in a grass field in the heat for 16 hours. Only time I actualy watch some cricket is during the world cup. Same goes for football, only world cup games are exciting for me.

As for other sports like track and field, swimming etc I had rather participate than watch it. Women's gymnastic is a good watch though :D

Personaly I was never much into sports besides the occasional cricket game, tennis or swimming and I had been totaly out of contact with sports for some time. But I am making a comeback now to stay fit.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Beyond sport activities in middleschool and highschool PE classes, I've never participated in any sort of sport. I've watched a game for more than 5 mniutes and I don't recall catching more than a few seconds of any in years.

To be so obsessed with watching, analysing, stat-tracking, and otherwise following something that is both physically real (as opposed to fantasy or creative thought) and yet is a invention fabricated and maintained just for entertainment, so that you technically could physically participate in it but dont, to me is ultimate nerdism.

It'd be like if recreating your own realistic the battle of Normandy or the bridge of the Enterprise was only a matter of calling up the neighborhood kids and polling together some cash at the local store for kids who are inot 'War' or 'Star Trek', but instead they just watch it on TV and stick to memorizing who did what. But on the other hand, that'd mean actually playing your own sports or having your own neighborhood team is on par with LARPing. :P

Lastly, I find it odd how the 'manliest' of sports seem to always involve big muscled men in tight little pants grabbing eachother...

I don't really care about pro-sports (football, basketball, etc.) at all, though I will occasionally watch baseball or boxing. Sometimes the odd stuff like sumo or kickboxing (ok, I'll usually watch any kind of martial art event).

The only "sport" I watch on a regular basis is pro-wrestling.

 I'm not alone!

I find watching any type of sport extremely boring. It simply doesn't interest me. When I was younger, I used to watch hockey for the sole purpose of being allowed to stay up later by my diehard fan parents. Later on, I actually grew to dislike hockey intensely, as it conflicted with other shows I'd have much rather watched (and no negotiating that with the parents).

Now, I continue to have no interest in watching sports. Why sit on a couch watching other people having fun? I'd rather play the sport myself. While I don't actively pursue any type of sport interest, if given the chance to play, say basketball with a few friends or other similar sport, I'm all for it. It's fun to play, boring to watch.

Wait, does watching Olympic womens gymnastics and figure skating count as sports? Because I often watch those, not just for the obvious reasons that everyone else does, but also because some of that stuff is truly amazing.

I think Coyote meant just the generalized "male" sports, like hockey, football, basketball, etc.

As to your question, I occasionally watch and appreciate the skills and training of athletes in Olympic sports, but I usually lose interest quickly. I'd rather go swimming myself, or play around on a mat, etc.

No real interest in sports either, I'm quite happy to watch football when it's on, and can get mildly passionate about the england games, but I'm nowhere near interested enough to follow a team or anything. I don't really watch much else in the way of sports, am quite happy to play them, watching can get dull.
