I brought my wife a dozen roses today where she works in the bank. Initially, I gave thought to wearing my Darth Vader mask while walking in with the roses (yes, I am that much of a Star Wars geek), but then I thought, "Bank .... mask .... hmmm, probably ought not do that." So, I just walked into the bank and handed Sherri the roses in a vase, and she seemed appreciative.

A somewhat bittersweet Christmas for me. This will be my Grandpa's last Christmas. He has cancer and will probably fail within six months unless he has a miraculous recovery. Though he wasn't here, it still hung over our heads, and my mom burst into tears at one point. My oldest dog will probably pass soon, also; she hasn't been able to keep down any of her food and has lost almost 20 pounds now. We don't know what's wrong with her. I've also had some academic problems this semester that may affect my post-college job prospects, and while I don't elevate my personal shit over the stuff that affects the family, it's made me more bummed out than usual, and my melancholy trickles down to my mom.

But, in spite of that, it's been a good Christmas, and we had fun. We had a nice dinner with family friends last night and we're about to sit down to a nice turkey dinner here. With me being away at school, my sister finishing up high school while working a part-time job whenever she can get the hours and both my parents working full-time jobs, we rarely get to be a family anymore (since I've been home, we've only eaten as a full family once or twice), and it feels good to finally be able to again. I hope you guys are with loved ones, too, because that's what this day is really all about.

I don't mean to cast a melancholy air over this thread, so please carry on. Merry Christmas, everyone!
