I very much enjoyed Greg Land's work in Sojourn, one of the Crossgen titles, even if the "female characters in bizarre positions" thing bothered me a couple of times. His drawings of non-human creatures (the undead enemy and his troll grunts, the dragons and such) were pretty damn cool.

Still, this thread in the Newsarama forums is nothing short of disturbing.

How can anyone not be sore at him? I mean, he told the more interesting story in the cass mini series through a TEXT DUMP.

With a character whose series that once featured minimal dialogue at best.

Plus, how could anyone in their right mind pass up the opportunity to write Cass and Alfred in, essentially, "My Fair Lady".

Also, in regards to the latest posted image: Cartoony style is not neccesserily a bad thing. Hyper-realism, I think, is a growing negative in comics.

Then again, my current solution to mainstream comics generally sums up as "Needs More Gurren Lagann".

While I loved Ramos' hyper-stylised approach on Impulse and X-Men, I don't think it's really suited to Runaways to be honest. It works better in stories with constant, crazy action scenes than a slower paced character interaction driven book like Runaways.

And I just avoided getting worked up about what they've done to Batgirl by not giving a shit about anything she's been in since OYL

Yeah, pretty much. Part of the reason Runaways (at least what I've read of it...I think that's somewhere part way through Joss Whedon's run) worked in my opinion is that despite having psychic raptors, magic pimps, biblical giants, hillbilly werewolves, and a former nazi scientist who is now made of bees (yeah he wasn't an original creation but seriously, he's made of fucking BEES) the art style and writing kept everything fairly believable. (not realistic thankfully because that wouldn't be believable) All of that meant that you could have all that crazy shit and at the same time cover the more mundane problems of the characters without feeling farcical or like it's trying to be SRS BZNS111 (like that fucking Young Avengers Civil War crossover with mr. "I get off on torturing young boys1111").

How is what you posted bad art though? You might not think it suits the subject matter, but that's a highly personal interpretation, whereas Land's tracing is objectively bad workmanship (especially when he reuses exactly the same trace for different characters in the same comic).

no, the worst part is that with her undies showing, and that beginning of a bust line, she looks a bit too sexualized for a character of her apparent age. I mean that's almost borderline lolipop look for her too.
