I thought the Teletubbies were supposed to by androgynous?

And as for Winnie-the-Pooh, they're right-- he only has male friends. And if you notice the donkey, Eeyore... he has a button on his tail. That means that it can be removed for easy accessability!!!111oneone.

It's actually Polish workers keeping quite a few of the Dublin Chapel's in business.

As I've mentioned on here before, the Polish Catholic church in my street can't fit all the congregation inside, so they've installed a tannoy system so that people can hear the service outside.

They also attend church several nights a week, not just Sunday. Easter seemed to be a non-stop 4-day Godfest. There are even minibuses and, occasionally, even full size coaches ferrying people in.

Still it gives them a break from drinking Zywiec on park benches.

Jesus, I felt so fucking embarassed for my country today.

But this isn't the worst. One of our MP's blew his top when he learned that gays are meeting regularly at a public pool in Poznan.

Get this?

He was pissed and ordered an investigation because Polish citizens meet in public places to talk.

That's insane. I mean, gays gathering to talk? What could they possibly talk about, a plan to overturn the government with a gay conspiracy or what? Ridiciulous.

I'm sort of interested, does Poland have any gay/lesbian bars at all?

Yeah, apparently because they're gay, and because they could possibly be planning to have sex afterwards. And, maybe, pick up guys.

Real dangerous, I know. Fortunately, the town mayor (yeah, he wanted to involve the fucking town mayor into investigating this) basically told him to fuck off.

Well, not many, but that's changing. They're not trying to forcibly close them down, either - Polish gay/lesbian organizations have really got some good work done with regard to bringing homosexuals out into the open.

Ah, I see. Russia may not allow gay parades, but as far as I know, gay and lesbian bars exist here without any pressure. The Ortodox Church must not be yet that powerful, although they're gaining power indeed.

Here in Toronto, we have plenty of gay bars, but we don't really need them. If you want a bar full of men, just go to a "sports bar"

We allow gay parades, despite the fucking cunts from the "Polish Youths" (a borderline neofascist youth organization adoring Roman Dmowski and his interwar nationalistic movement) always try to disturb them.

Though when these parades were very flamboyant and, well, stereotypically gay they didn't really ellicit a positive response from the populace. The homosexual organizations and associations then switched to a more sensible approach - they just march as any other political group, plain clothes and all, and this really made an impact in the last two years. Nobody is trying to ban these parades now.

What is also heartwarming is that extreme, vocal frothing-at-the-mouth religious conviction is really looked down upon. It's often surprising for foreigners to find, say, crosses on walls in public offices, but at least in everyday conversation the so called mohair-brigade (fundies) is universally reviled. We still have a long way to go, of course, as other posters noted.
