Grandmother Died

Post by Darth Yan »

My Grandmother passed away this morning, 10:30 in california time at the age of 81. She had parkinson's disease for a couple of years and was at deaths door for months. Mom flew out yesterday to be with her. We knew it was coming but it's rather sad. We'll find out tonight when the funeral is. We're flying out of course.

It's never easy, especially if you know it's coming. Sorry for your loss.

This is never easy but at least you know her struggles are all over now. Parkinson's is never any fun. My Grandfather had Alzheimer's and that was painful watching the sweet guy I knew disappearing a bit at a time.

I feel for you. I've been there before.

In fact, my grandparents becoming seriously ill (my grandfather very close to dying) was, I think, one of the few things that pushed me into my first bout of depression. I was only 8 years old when that bout started.
Seeing current events as they are is wrecking me emotionally. So I say 'farewell' to this forum. For anyone who wonders.

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.

I'm sorry to hear that she suffered so long. Condolences, and try to remember her healthy days before she fell ill. Have a safe trip.

I posted the same thing in Zor's thread about his mother's cancer, but I'll make the same offer here. If you need to talk, and don't want to bother people closer to you, message me. I don't need all the context or anything, just feel free to vent at me and know that I'll read it and get back to you.

I've been in New York for a few days. I'm staying till the tenth (my uncle's been her caretaker for the past few years and needs time to readjust). I'm there to help him during this time.
