I REALLY hate the attitude of Arabic nations

Post by Justforfun000 »

You know what I find absolutely disgusting? This attitude that seems to be so prevalent across the world when it comes to Arabic attitudes in general concerning themselves as a "people". Everytime I come across some news story, there is ALWAYS something mentioned as a quote from some Arab saying in effect: "This is an attack on the Arab people" or "The Islamic World will not tolerate this insult", or some other idiotic statement.

I am getting so sick of seeing this attitude constantly displayed VERY openly to everyone as if they should be proud of declaring themselves a seperate race of people. This is at the heart of our problems with other nations, races and religions. This whole idea of SEPARATENESS. This world would be a million times better if we were taught to look at all human beings as one big family and stop segregating each other into these fucking classes.

So the States want to go in and fuck up the Iraqi regime. Good or bad, right or wrong, how the hell does that affect some joe blow living in Indonesia that has absolutely nothing to do with Iraqi politics, and probably has never even BEEN in the country in his life?

The reality is that it DOESN'T. But that fundamentalist attitude towards Islam that is so prevalent these days among the Arabic nations of the world is brainwashing people into thinking ALL Arabs and moslems are their special "brothers" and are therefore worth more, and considered more important than the rest of the world. These are the attitudes that will be the death of us.

How can we change these immoral attitudes? How do we help people wake up and see that their whole jaundiced viewpoint is reprehensible?

I feel daily frustration at this sickening attitude.

Hit them all over the head with a roll-ed up newspaper is the best Idea I've seen so far

Besides that its because Idiots breed faster than smart people(A big problem) and they are not killing themselves off as fast as they used to, They had to go put warning lables on the obvious stuff so the people we would be better off without(Those that swim in shark-infested waters, hop into Mixing vats and the like) are now alive and well and killing smart people in car ccidents :(

Oh and remeber the Media is compused of loud idiots looking for other loud idiots so our view is often scewed because of this if you say watch CNN

There is very little you can do. Probably the best way is expose them to the west and secularism. Iraq is a good example, the country and it's people were starting to progress out of the dark ages. Unfortunatly, Saddam invaded Kuwaitt and we had to bomb their ass back. Some other countries are starting to see the light, but very slowly.

It's not so much the Arab world as the "Nation of Islam". Islam explicitly dictates that the religion supersedes the state. Even Muslims who are American citizens still believe in this "Nation of Islam" shit.

Agreed. Unfortunately, religion adds yet another category of division to the pre-existing potential categories of race and nation. The Arab/Jew problem is dictated by all three. Are Jews a nation, a race, or a religion? Ask different people and you'll get different answers, or sometimes all three. Is Islam a nation, a religion, or a race? Again, ask different people and you'll get different answers, or sometimes all three.

The same way it makes American right-wingers and/or Christians angry whenever somebody says something bad about Israel: ideological brotherhood.

That is common to all forms of religious fundamentalism. It is the nature of the beast.

High-quality public scientific education. Separation of church and state. Unfortunately, there's not enough of it in this country, never mind those Arab countries. I shudder to think of the kind of education handed out in Saudi Arabia.

You know it's really a shame that we have so little power to change people's attitudes, when all we REALLY need to do so is proper education.

As Mike pointed out, we have a hard enough time getting people properly educated on THIS continent, let alone having much of an impact on places with very little technology or the freedom to implement it.

I guess I can hold to the hope that the internet might be a potential saving grace as the more communication possible between people from a distance, as well as the ability to search for knowledge, gives them a better chance of learning things and growing to be a silent majority of more tolerant and learned individuals that might eventually rise up and stand against religious fundamentalism in the places that are REALLY under its thumb.

Might be a very slow process if they don't have either the money OR the freedom given to possess them, but SOME do I'm sure.

*sigh*. It's just hard to believe that we all have the potential brains, the current knowledge, and the example of history to draw on which should be MORE than enough to bring human beings up into the 21st century. So few people really bother to LEARN. They selectively choose what they wish to believe. I guess it has to do with our human trait of dreaming and fantasizing. Apparently many people don't know where to draw the line. :?

The funny thing is that alot of moderates in Arab countries get such limited camera time. Were left with the impression that Arabs would rather throw stones and bomb the US back to the stone age!

BTW. Indonesia is not an Arab country.

I still say we need to give the Middle East back to the Turks. They're Muslims and they have a republic devoted to secular rule (military backing included) and a civilized nation.

Or an Arab Ataturk will do...

So, you're saying that any attack on the US is an attack on the free world, democracy and good honest, Christian, white folk, but that any attack on Muslims or Islam is acceptable and shouldn't be complained about?

Pretty much agree with you.

I disagree with Islamic Extremists on everything except the part about there being only enough room for one of us. However, I do see why a misguided fundamentalist in Indonesia would be concerned with Iraq, just like the average U.S. citizen is concerned with Iraq, even though neither has been there.

Ahh, but it's a very big difference HOW they are concerned. U.S. citizens concerning themselves about Iraq has more to do with the way people would watch a hornet's nest on a neighbor's property.

The Indonesian citizen however is looking at ANYONE non-muslim or non-arabic as being an "infidel" and therefore NOT as important. Also they do not consider them a fellow human being with the same status as another arab or muslim. Some are big on one or the other or BOTH of course.

So they will blindly label an attack, no matter HOW justified, on a fellow arab/muslim as an attack on THEM and all their "brothers". Not much different then what used to be very common many years ago (possibly still is). If a white man got into a fight with a black man, all the black men would jump to the black mans defense no matter WHAT the reason.

Unfair and racist, yes. As likely to happen today as much as 30 years ago? Debatable. We are MUCH better integrated, especially in a multi-cultural city like Toronto. LOONG way to go yet, but definitely a massive improvement over some places. All you have to do is look at kids and you'll see all races and colors hanging out together with no problem. certainly many of them will never grow up with the full racist attitudes of their ancestors.

So anyhow, on a global scale we have the same thing happening with arabs/muslims and the example I gave. This has to change. We can't deal with individual situations that are constantly blown up into involving the whole Arab world.
