Unconditional Love

Post by Jack Lain »

Unconditional love is a fallacy. There is no such thing. All love and feelings in general are tied to conditions. Whether these conditions are in the subconscious of the lover or not, is irrelevant. They still exist. Conditions are natural and a part of being human.

Ah, but some of you will say, "Jack, I love my children, no matter what they do."
To which I reply, your son just killed your wife and fucked his sister, then killed her. Still love him? I doubt it. Or will you claim you are simply very disappointed? BTW: that is example is real. I know someone who suffered through that.

There is no such thing. All love is based on conditions. Attractiveness, intelligence, kindness, money or what have you. You define love in your own context, which is of course, conditional.

The concept of unconditional love is false. It does not exist and more than likely cannot exist in humans at this stage. Probably never will at any stage of human development as it ties too closely with survival of the fittest which of course shows that love (or at least the choice of sexual partners) are chosen for deeper more direct biological reasons. Again, conditions.

The thing I like the best about my Parent's Cat is that she is a total self centered, consceited, asshole.

Oh come now, gloom and doom is fun during the teenage years, but we all outgrow it eventually, right?

Oh and unconditional love probably exists. Yes, you will probably still find people who will love others even if the other rapes his daughter, kills his son, milks his cat, etc. etc.

People like that pretty much only exist as characters in badly written fiction (e.g. <cough>Delenn<gag, choke>). Real people tend to be far more fickle in how they hend out their love or compassion.

And I must agree with RayCav: the best love is no love at all.
It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.

There comes a time in your life when you realize that most of what you thought in your teen years was wrong, at least when it comes to matters of the heart.

You'd be surprised. While you can concoct insane scenarios (your kid murders all of his siblings and tries to kill you, for example) to show that it's not 100% "unconditional", you know perfectly well that most people use the term in relation to more realistic situations. It's like refuting claims of unbreakable prison bars by saying you can drive an M-1 tank through them.

The love a (good) parent has for his child is not like anything a non-parent can possibly understand or appreciate. I know non-parents get irritated at statements like that, but it's true. A non-parent trying to comprehend parental love is like a blind person trying to comprehend "blue".
And I must agree with RayCav: the best love is no love at all.
You guys just need to get laid :)

If you can concoct bizarre scenarios that have probably occured about three dozen times in the history of mankind, then I can point to unusual individuals who can still love even in the face of such circumstances.

I think Mr. Wong has the right of it.

When I look at my best friends newborn baby Im starting to learn what parents must feel. She is such an adorable baby.

As for me, I cant honestly say I loved my last cat no matter what she did.
And pets, both cats and dogs, love thier masters in return.

While I'm not a parent, not married, nor ever been in a relationship, I think I understand it pretty well.

Must.. be.. scientific..

The primary function of an individual is to have descendants. Billions of years of evolution lead to that. Because of this, the most important human function is reproduction [that's why we value it so much, nature made it feel good].

Following that reasoning, the second most important is to secure the ofspring well being. By the same reason as above, it should feel good to.

Or that or I'm just depressed. Never mind.

True.

The cute "preppy" girls that I dig are all bitches.

I drive to my HS in my mom's 1987 Dodge Caravan, that I am now personally responsible for in terms of upkeep. Taking care of that thing comes out of my own pocket. And I see these girls in their stupid Jags and Audis.

And of course they always show up in their preppy outfits.

Man, they are such bitches. But I just can't take my mind off of them. It's like that uptown girl song thingy. I'm not capably of coherent thought right now so I'll stop ranting.

Man, I need to play GTA 3 now, pronto!

Then don't go after preppy girls. Go after the nice girls who will actually appreciate you instead of treating you like shit, stringing you along so they can make you do things for them, and expecting you to keep coming back for more.

Any girl who was given a Jag or Audi by her parents as a gift is obviously a spoiled brat, and there's nothing but trouble at the end of that road. They look cute because they spend all of their time and money obsessing over their hair, clothes, and makeup, which is not exactly a good sign.

I have a question:

Can you REALLY love something if it doesn't love you back? I mean can real true actual love exist in such a vacuum?

Three things:

1.) I just have a weakness for preppy girls. Especially at my school, the ones in the highest of the advanced educational programs, who always wear those cute desses and look like rich bitches. I've always been a sucker for the "creme de la creme", I figure it's the perfectionist side of me speaking out.

2.) Most of the girls at my school who frankly don't freak me out are preppy anyway

3.)Even the non-preppy ones aren't that kind to me. I've never been a ladies man :P

Yes I know it's irrational, but I'm still an irrational man :P
