Susan Rice has withdrawn her name from consideration for the next Secretary of State. It is unknown at this time if this is related to Benghazi, but I can only imagine that McCain, Graham and Ayotte are happy.

I still cannot believe that the same people who spent the last decade making excuses for Bush's errors in judgement and lapses of attention are trying to make the deaths of four Americans in Libya into a huge scandal. It's simply incredible.

Yes, yes - we know the Republicans are colossol, enormous, unimaginable, monumental hypocrites with absolutely no shame and a bodycount in the hundreds of thousands.

But, there still needs to be some explanation for Benghazi - not so much the initial incorrect statement (it's understandable as an honest mistake in the fog of war, especially given the proximity of the Cairo mob violence) - but rather the continued insistence that the attack was related to mob violence for days after the fact. We need to admit it's possible that the Obama administration just didn't want to admit their mistake, and thought they could get away with it.

If they immediately rescinded their initial statement and admitted it was a terrorist attack, the Republicans would still probably complain that there wasn't enough security or something, (they're always desperately trying to find some scandal they can pin on Obama) but it would be difficult for the GOP to elevate it to such a scandal as they've done. Lucky for the Democrats, the voting public doesn't give a shit about Lybia.
