How does Data Die?

Well? Is it painful? is it in some technobabble way? That would be ironic.

Nope. Data shoots the power relay of the main gun on the Scimitar and the ship explodes violently.

If its any consulation to you, his parts were spread across the rift because of the explosion, and when I say parts, I mean it can fit into a shot glass.

Damn, that sucks. He was one of my favourite TNG characters.

At least Nurse Ogawa survived.

So he sacrifices himself? Why do the others let him do this? He's the only one of his lkind unless you count Lore (went psycho and got deactivated) and that prototype in the movie (from which i heard pretty much follows Lore) Couldn't they have got a nameless ensign to do it or some other character. Data actually had more personality than most TNG characters IMO.

I doubt a nameless ensign could travel in space without a suit, of course they could have just beamed a photon grande and taken out the weapon that way (using a shuttles transporter) but whatever works :) .

I never thought of that before. They could have sent a whole squad of elite Federation space marines the same way they sent Data.

Except that "elite Federation space marines" don't exist.

The transporters were (through an astonishing coincidence) destroyed immediately after Picard beamed over. Now, you can obviously question why Picard did not send a marine over, instead of himself, but to ask that one would also need to demonstrate conclusively the presence of UFP marines on the E-E, which was practically disproven by the movie's use of bridge-crew and security team members as the first line of defense against Reman boarders.

Because of Picard's incredibly inability to act (which was TOTALLY inconsistent with his character from the show and the rest of the movies), Data did not have time to overload a phaser. Even if he had, it is doubtful that he could have escaped the blast. He only had one prototype transporter unit, which was only good for one person (in another contrived plot-device).

It takes time for a phaser to overload, Data did not have a whole lot of time. Seconds at most......

Star Trek IV showed us that you can just hold on to the person being transported and go through with him or her. Not only was it contrived, but it was stupid.

That is while using a more powerful transporter. The device that Data had seemed completely self contained and a one time use unit. Data could not have come with him. Not only that Data could not have done anything in time to destroy the ship and escape. He had to stay there to destroy the ship.

Sure he could. He'd be a little stiff when he reached the other ship, but he'd travel just fine :)

All you have to do is get a redshirt into the ship, and his Improbable Event Generation Field will make something terrible happen, I'm sure.

Redshirst are like that, they must emit some sort of Infinite Improbability Field but one that attracts every type of danger within several parsecs to their position, thus saving any real people nearby.

They are the ultimate cannon fodder, maybe you could make an ablative armour made from Redshirts...

What's not to like about Ogawa.

I don't masturbate over pictures of her and have a shrine in my dorm, if that's what you're asking.

Seriously, I just think that she's really cute and is a great character.

Don't worry. By the next movie (if there is another NG-cast movie) will find that Data conviently back up his memory on the Enterprise. And then in some other contrieved plot point, B4 will find a way to accidentally plug himself in and download it. Because he's retarded.
