Re: Live from the eagle's nest
Both eaglets are now grown up in size and fly around and often sit on branches outside the camera's coverage. They still get fed from the parents. Nest is often empty, but not always. Is is correct to call them eaglets when they're grown? They are now like late teenagers, I guess. Kinda fully grown...

Also, Jane Fonda was making a political statement/protest by showing the Vietcon were people. She didn't join them. Effectively, she looked around, took some pictures, and said 'this war sucks'. Fonda also handed over messages american PoW's tried to giver her over to the vietcong in charge of the ...

Regarding the networking, what is the range of the transceiver relay towers? Also, do the helmets themselves work as hubs? That is, if a group is away from the central structure, are all members of the remote group connected to the main group if one member of the remote group is connected to the cen...

Ravagers (1979)
The title appears to be the most exciting part of the movie.

Well, let's hope that Roy grabbed the no doubt exceptionally potent dagger that Tarquin dropped on the Mechane in panel 934. More interesting but less immediately useful would be the whip that Tarquin left wrapped around V's neck in panel 931. Or Roy uses the new captain as an improvised greatclub...

Star Wars canon includes electromagnetic pulse grenades, also known as droid poppers, though they presumably only work well against droids. Non-canon, but quite logically, there are also stun grenades mentioned in various sources. Failing that, how about a pom-pom grenade? The activated grenade burs...

Okay, I'll take the OP at face value, especially as it thankfully does not involve parrots. I am pretty sure that I could find a suitable stash spot in my back yard, though I would undoubtedly have to invest in lots and lots of sawdust, or at least fine wood chips. Perfectly feasible. Aside from a m...

It was pointed out in previous posts why they couldn't do that with real blueprints, let alone fictional ones. And in any event we don't have the kind of exotic sci-fi materials that would be required. Even if they somehow managed o get complete knowledge and understanding of how SW tech works and ...

I look forward to Archinist, God help him, taking you seriously. :D That said, highly blatant use of human shields combined with being a homicidal savage towards everyone you aren't personally using as a shield is a great way to break down an enemy's willingness to be restrained for the sake of you...

Naturally, these alternate universe Indowy use a magic-based equivalent of the magical nanofabricaton employed by their technological equivalents. So what ta...

Going with the magic option, or the psychic option, how about auras and charms? Everyone and everything has an aura, strong for living beings but weak for inanimate things, which only extends slightly beyond the skin of the living being generating it, but extending to envelop anything the person has...

Re: Ideas on how melee weapons can be more efficient than range weapons in fantasy / science-fiction.
The problem with this is creative restrictions it places, including something like "what if I just don't give a fuck?" and bring a ranged weapon. Which is not an unreasonable attitude when killing people. Also would require a culture willing to accept loss of life for what is essentially ...

How about societal and cultural factors? Take as an example a society in a very constrained environment, such as the stereotypical science-fictional arcology or an independent orbital habitat. The use of firearms might well bring down terminal sanctions by a government perfectly content to allow its...

There actually was an iron industry in the Portland area, until it became uneconomical due to cheaper and better product shipped in from the Great Lakes region. Thus the Oregon Iron Company. Iron ore was available locally, though some of the other necessary materials would require work to procure. I...

What the.. I just noticed Rogue Trader has man-portable plasma cannons, which I'm pretty sure don't appear anywhere else in WH40k fluff. The machine is from a German company, and the show is German, so the fact that the stunt took place in Vienna doesn't invalidate the title. The clip merely proves that German does build some great heavy equipment, and Austria has some insanely good (insane?) heavy equipment operators.

One particularly obscure bunch of alien infiltrators would be the telehypnotically controlled pawns of the Frogs, the alien menace from the relatively old and very short-lived German SF TV series Raumpatrouille . http://www.orionspace.de/ww/de/pub/english.htm The aliens have even more trouble than t...
