Re: Obama budget 'targets middle class'

I can't say that I think that the suggestion that a tax increase could lead to people breaking the law is a good reason to not pass the tax increase.

I have one, and it's quite enjoyable to tool around in - that being said, it's basically the exact same thing as the WZ-131.

Re: A curious item I found- 56k beware.

"R.S.M." would presumably be Regimental Sergeant Major, but I can't find anyone with that rank (nor named Lee, either) in the list I have - but seeing George V reign seen the largest number of VC ever awarded, it might just be incomplete. Also, it would be nice to have close photo of engr...

Re: What should a university be all about?

Before I got my degree, I was told in several interview feedbacks that they preferred a candidate with a degree, regardless of field, because to them it showed that you could complete projects to deadlines and juggle competing demands on time - they felt that high school didn't necessarily do this.

Re: WTF Are the North Koreans Smoking Now?

I watched that video Saxtonite posted, and (assuming the analysis of the DPRK presented there is accurate) it suggests that North Korea can't back down, because for their domestic market, North Korea having the military strength to oppose America is a really fundamental aspect of the regime's justif...

Re: Jutland rematch, lets change the rules.

ISTR that one of the key points was that Lloyd George and Haig pretty much despised each other, so when the former became PM he started bleeding troops away from Haig. This was also due to Lloyd George being part of the group who believed the war could best be won in the other theaters by defeating ...

Re: Judge Strikes Down NYC Ban on Large Sodas

So if serving sizes are regulated, what stops someone who wants more soda from just buying a second drink? Nothing. The thought only occurred to me after I was at a gathering and people were getting ready to go home, and were talking about how many standards they'd had to drink to figure out if the...

Re: Judge Strikes Down NYC Ban on Large Sodas

I wonder if it might be helpful, in terms of raising peoples awareness of what and how much sugar they're drinking, to establish a "standard drink" like there is for alcohol, and then have printed on the front of the drink how many standards are in it. If its a sanely mandated amount, then...

He literally said 'KV-4 Reported'. I don't know how you check that, or I would to see if it was just useless whining. And being as I was the only KV-4 on either side, it was obviously me he was talking about. EDIT: And I blame the fact I was still half-asleep at the time for the angry-ness of the p...

Re: Identifying a medal

Is it too obvious to suggest that the museum in question knew who had held the medal and their service record, which would give a reasonable basis for guessing where the medal might be from? I mean, if there's a collection of medals from a person, and aside from one you can't identify they're all Au...

Re: Director's Cuts

Kingdom of Heaven's DC completely changed the film for me. IIRC the DC of Gladiator added a fairly decent political plotline in, too. The other ones which spring to mind is the DC of Lethal Weapon, which adds a sequence of a shootout in a schoolyard which establishes Riggs as both wanting to die and...

I was wondering what the fuck "Asian" meant in this context. I thought maybe it meant Indians or something, but it just means "Muslims?" IIRC in the UK "Asian" means South Asians, ie from the subcontinent. Quite a few of them are visibly Muslim, enough that it's an ass...

My gaming group has just gotten into Cosmic Encounter recently, which has been extremely enjoyable, and I would thoroughly recommend it. 7 players with the expansions we have, and the battle and negotiation mechanics can make for some very interesting interaction.

But by the time they've done it, normal economic growth and advancing industrial technolo...

Yeah, for some reason they don't do inauguarantion ceremonies on Sundays, but Obama had to be sworn in on the 20th by law. 2. Congressional redistricting is taken out of the hands of the politicians and put into the hands of neutral, nonpartisan bureaucrats. It could be a Kea. There is something unsettling about an animal that eats sheep without doing the courtesy of killing them first. http://www.birdorable.com/blog/img/kea_sheep.jpg Zor Not *that* uncommon - my maternal family has a sheep-farming background, and they find Australian crows to be deepl...
