Re: man that killed drunk driver not guilty

The state prosecutor - "we wouldn't have prosecuted him if we didn't think he was guilty" seems pretty reasonable. Should they be prosecuting people they think are innocent? Should they be NOT prosecuting people they think are guilty? Alright, phrased that way it doesn't sound so bad. It'...

Re: man that killed drunk driver not guilty

After the hearing, prosecutor Jeri Yenne stepped in front of cameras to say that she still believed that Barajas killed Jose Banda. Otherwise, the state wouldn't have prosecuted, she said. Regardless of whether or not the father killed the driver, and regardless of whether or not he deserves to be ...

Re: Question for Japanese speakers or members

Roughly, yeah. I think there might be a bit of an implication that it's a giant robot (since mecha is more commonly used for them), but it should be acceptable for a human-sized robot as well. If you really want the boy part in the name (and depending on the type of robot and how accurate you want t...

Um, ボット美少年 would be "Bottobishounen," which I don't think is what you're looking for. If you're looking for "Robobishounen," then you'd want ロボ美少年 However, if all you're looking for is beautiful, you only really need to take the 美, or "bi" part (the other two parts basi...

Re: Presidential Debate Obama VS Romney Round 2

Did Romney just change his tax plan? Wasn't he going to cut rates 20% yet he's not lowering the total tax burden "on the 5%"? Just managed to get home to watch the debate, so I missed that part and don't know if it was addressed in the debate, but I believe Romney likes to pretend that si...

Re: CNN and Time's Fareed Zakaria Suspended For Plagiarism

The stupidity of doing this makes me wonder if it might have been some sort mistake. Maybe he copied the passage into his piece with the intention of attributing the original author or rephrasing it, got distracted by something else for a while, and then forgot about where that passage came from. I ...

Re: The Legend of Korra: Book 1 Finale Talkback (Spoilers)

Was anybody else bothered by Tarrlok and Amon's backstory? Maybe it's just because I'm used to thinking of Tarrlok as the more vicious of the two (because of how he treated non-benders), but the parts where Amon took to cruelty and violence more readily than Tarrlok felt artificial. I kept expecting...

Re: Venus passage.

Took my binoculars out and focused the sun's light through them onto a piece of paper, but I didn't see Venus. It was right when the transit was supposed to be starting, so I figured it was just too early and that I'd check back in a little while. Cue the rain, which fell until after sunset.

Regarding the car corpses, maybe whatever does the reanimating dies at a high enough temperature, like real bacteria and viruses do, and the corpses in the cars got up to that temperature at some point while they were trapped.

Re: Dallas Judge refuses to marry hetero couples

Sorry if this is incorrect, but seeing as I'm not American I might be wrong, but is marrying people part of her actual, official duties? I was under the impression that it was an optional service that individual judges could render if they so choose, often for a fee. If that were the case, this tan...

According to another story I found, the shooter wasn't in the car that was pulled over, but rather approached the cop during the traffic stop. I'll just quote the immediately relevant part, more through the link. New York Times BLACKSBURG, Va. — Two people, including a campus police officer, were sh...

Re: NASA Says it disco.ers first planet in habitable zone.

Indeed, they don't know its mass yet, as this article confirms. Makes sense, since Kepler finds planets by measuring how much of the parent star's light they block and mass doesn't figure into that.

Edited for clarity.

I'm not Mayabird, but the homeless can use homeless shelters for their physical addresses, and have their ballots sent there. Or they can use a P.O. Box, have it sent to a friend's home, etc... Voila, enfranchised homeless.

I doubt their ability to "brainwash" people on this topic. Sure, conspiracy theories always have an audience, but it isn't like that audience is really growing in size. If they are a disease, then I believe that most of the population is pretty resistant. EDIT: On the off-chance that it is...

Re: Utah plans on going for Gold and Silver standards

The idea of allowing gold and silver coins to be used as currency based on the value of the metal rather than the face denomination seems impractical, to say the least. Especially if they are to be used at regular stores. Ignoring the unlikelihood that such coins would actually be used like that, do...
