My new car

Post by His Divine Shadow »

Well, well, I've been looking for a new car some time now, a while ago I thought I'd found a nice one in Sweden, but it was sold, it was a Pontiac Trans Am 1989 for 7100€

But good things come to he who wait, I've now reserved a car in Germany, Solingen with an auto company there, taking the plane to Düsseldorf sometime next week to collect my new car, which is a 1992 Pontiac Trans Am GTA in top condition, 5.7l V8 engine at 246HP, black exterior, black leather interior and a mileage of 110,000km.
The company will send someone to drive the car to the airport in Düsseldorf, it's only 25km.
After that I'm heading back home with the car, up through Denmark and then to Sweden, Stockholm where I'll take the ferry over to Turku.
Thank god for Germany, home of cheap cars.

That is one sweet-lookin' machine! How much does 7100(marks?) translate to in dollars?

It's euro's, everything is in euro's nowadays, and going to Germany is like going next door, some good things from the EU atleast.
It's not 7100, thats the old one, this one was priced at 7950 but I got it down to 7000, which I guess is around 8500-8600USD

7100€ ~= US$9100 at current exchange rates. The dollar has been devaluing as of late, though, so the exchange rate is not as good as it has been.

Sure, and this is a rural area with long straight roads.

Ahh, yes, the throaty, low RPM growl of a 350 is....soothing....at idle, anyway. Then you introduce mass quantities of Gas and Air into the combustion chamber and the DRAGON IS AWAKENED!

8k USD does seem a bit steep, though, for a 10 year old car. Still...we ARE talking about a firebird....

Only from your POV, because cars in america, esp american cars in america(i.e. domestic cars) are alot cheaper there.
It's worth around 16,000USD in Finland, possibly something around 13-14k USD in sweden, and 8900 in Germany.

holy shit! i just paid a little more than that ($16,300- about $1300 less than sticker) for a brand new, fully loaded (canadian built) Honda Civic EX! I can only imagine what it would cost over there.

Probably not as expensive as that no, american sport cars are always more expensive than the norm.
Finland doesn't have any domestic car industries to my knowledge either.

Well, go back to Finland, sell it and go buy another one from Germany =>7k USD in one shot

Do this a couple of times and you'll be a millionaire.

Wow, definetly some steep prices for american cars in finland. I got a 99 Camaro SS with 38,000 miles for 18,600 USD last year. Of course I ripped that dealer off, bluebook was 22 at the time:)

A new Honda Civic 1.6i ES 4d costs 23,000 EUR here. With the exception of Chrysler (I believe their cars are made somewhere in Europe), American cars are indeed quite rare in Finland. German, Swedish and Japanese cars completely dominate our market.

The numbers of American cars on German streets are extremely low.

Yet the number of Beemers, Volkswagens, and Mercs on American roads is actually pretty high...interesting.

Even more so in California. My cousin from Georgia remarked that she could not believe how many BMW's there were here. Foreign cars easily make up 50% of the market here. Its more in the Bay Area.

My friends bought an Altima today, its a pretty nice car for the price. I'm leaning towards getting one myself in a few months.

(jaws drop to the floor)

Just a question - does one really need a "mullet" haircut to drive a Firebird? IIRC it certainly goes well along with the car.

All which His Divine Shadow now needs now is a "mullet" hairstyle. One can't drive a Firebird without. :P

Or can one?
He could always get a cowboy hat and insist that everyone call him "The Bandit". :D

Yes I know it's not the same style of car and that Burt Reynolds drove a Trans Am but it's close enough and it would be better than having to have a mullet.
