P Diddy says: lower oil prices so I can fly my private jet!

Post by Darth Wong »

Wow, talk about disconnection from reality:
CNN wrote:Diddy: Lower oil prices so I can fly on private jet

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Fuel prices have grounded an unexpected frequent-flyer: Diddy.

Sean "Diddy" Combs complained about the "... too high" price of gas and pleaded for free oil from his "Saudi Arabia brothers and sisters" in a YouTube video posted Wednesday.

The hip-hop mogul said he is now flying on commercial airlines instead of in private jets, which Combs said had previously cost him $200,000 and up for a roundtrip between New York and Los Angeles.

"I'm actually flying commercial," Diddy said before walking onto an airplane, sitting in a first-class seat and flashing his boarding pass to the camera. "That's how high gas prices are. I'm at the gate right now. This is really happening, proof gas prices are too high. Tell whoever the next president is we need to bring gas prices down."
I never realized how bad the oil situation was, until I found out that P Diddy had to fly first-class commercial airlines instead of private jets. My heart truly goes out to that poor, unfortunate man. Perhaps we should take up some kind of donation drive to help him?

Ah yes, the celebrated entrepreneurial savant of marketing 90's urban music who spares no length to make a point of how keen and informed he is shows his true colors once more. Go back to trying to pass off slow-paced mumbling as rap, Diddy.

The video, for those who are interested. He's calling it a "joke" in the description, and watching the video I can see it go both ways - this is so over-the-top I'd immediately have pegged it as a prank video had the source not been a man who is over-the-top himself. The problem with rappers making overblown statements on wealth and luxury is that, well, it's kinda hard to know when they're kidding...

I'm almost surprised one of the airlines isn't giving him a couple of free flights, just for the publicity that P Diddy is flying on their jets.

Since the high and mighty Senate have decreed that human interest stories are verboten in this particular forum, I'm afraid that action will have to be taken against you through formal channels Mike. I do believe some of the ideas being talked about are titles and temporary bans for the posting of threads that do not meet with the rigorous standards of the Commissariat, er, Senate...perhaps you could see clear to banning yourself for a bit? As for the article, it's hardly surprising. I mean, we have had someone in just the last week on this very board defend the notion that a million dollars isn't much when you've got to pay for a celebrity life style. Because, goodness knows if you don't manage to keep your private jet flying all the other rappers and superficial assholes will make fun of you at parties and then you're in real shit. Something about ladies of the court was in amongst it all too, though that just reminds me of my idea of forcing rappers to wear ballgowns when performing to help illustrate how ridiculous most of what they say is.

Yeah.
I can see it being interpreted either way.
Though since Puff Daddy (or whatever he goes by these days) wasn't born into a life of privilege, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in this instance.

If he was serious, he's a fucking ignorant asshole.

But if he was joking, I can see the humor in it, even if it offends some people.

I'm guessing "joke", as $200,000 round trip LA to NYC and back is pretty damn high even for a private jet. I can't give a firm figure, as there are so many variables (size of jet, efficiency of engines, landing fees, cost of catering for passengers, etc.) but my guesstimate is that the round trip using the figures I was familiar with when actively flying should be around $30,000 - $40,000 for the luxury treatment in a BIG jet. (The smaller jets would be less than that.) Even if the price doubled, that should be "only" $60,000-$80,000, or less than half the quoted figure.

And Keevan - it's Mike's board, he's allowed to break the rules. :P

The Evil Warsie Conspiracy provides. Chimpus Caesar sold separately.

In regards to the topic, I'm inclined to lean along the lines of him mocking the oil companies, but I don't know for sure. Does P. Diddy have a history of this sort of thing?

Call me a hopeless optimist, but considering Mr. Diddy also has a videoblog out there where he complains about "Bitchassness Alert Level Orange" I'm fairly convinced he's kidding...

I still have a copy of The Smoking Gun which lists his birthday party's requirements. I have the exact article from the site here.
After TSG provided such distinctive coverage of P. Diddy's ostentatious 29th birthday party, we're crushed that we didn't merit an invite to the rap star's bash tonight (8/29) following the MTV Video Music Awards (perhaps Nathalie Moar, Puffy's flack and a huge TSG fan, didn't put enough postage on our envelope). But that doesn't mean we don't have the invitation packet in our sweaty hands, Nat. Reflecting the usual P. Diddy reserve, the soiree is dubbed "The Greatest Party of All Time," and invites have been sent to 1500 guests who'll supposedly become "a part of history" upon attending. The "party policy," which you'll find below, includes an amusing--some might call it obscene--set of guidelines re: scuffed shoes, haircuts, pedicures, and clothing (though someone needs to tell Puffy that Mr. Dolce's partner spells his surname "Gabbana"). Accompanying the invitation is a suede-covered photo album chronicling previous P. Diddy parties, from East Hampton to Saint Tropez (CLICK HERE to view the photo album). But remember, you, like TSG, have not been invited to tonight's party, which is being co-hosted by Maverick Records boss Guy Oseary.
The link has a scan of the original invitation. He took his 29th birthday party that seriously.

You know that could be a funny story right there...

Mike: So I founded the website, I pay for the server. Then I broke the rules and had to ban myself from it for a time...

Then again my sense of humor is an odd one.
