These are some drawings/sketches that I have done for weemadando for an idea he had. I'll let him fill in the details as to what that is. Feedback is very much welcome.
(edit: made the first pic a little darker and easier to see)

These are drawings which are heading towards my Steampunk Rome RPG book. I basically asked to have him draw legionnaires with muskets and see where that went. Then with a Tetsudo formation. I like where he went with it so far.
I like the second image.... after I knew what I was looking at (a Testudo)... might work better with a foot showing under the nearest shield...
Now if the horde in the last image has muskets I wonder what the Romans have in their shields ... musket balls aren't stopped by a 1/4" of pine or 1/8" iron chestplate...

In the setting, very few people aside from the Romans have the capacity to manufacture firearms and more importantly, gunpowder.
As such, the armour and shields are still relevant.
But, once the Arabs start acting up or the Chinese are encountered in force it could all change.
Anachronistic Romans = awesome. I've doodled (poorly, I'm not an artist) little sketches in my notebooks of Romanized body armor, combat knives, and kevlar helmets, so this kind of stuff makes me squeal like a fangirl.

Actually only one guy in the hoard has a musket, and only because he picked it up. The powder and balls, he doesn't have.

Ah makes sense... As for the officer, I'm guessing here, in the second photo I think a large calibre pistol type would be better suited... not sure I'd want to try firing something that size one handed... a musket's hard enough with two hands

I was actually going to ask you about commissions for the purpose of doing some of their vehicles (like steam trains and ironclads).
I've got some ironclad designs in my head right now. Is there anything specific you would like to see? Are these Romans advanced enough to put rotating turrets on their ironclads?

The way I've visualised it - yes. But of course, being Romans, the turrets are turned by slavepower. And the overall design/shape is still reasonably reminiscent of a trireme.

Yeah... the Romans never were very good with naval assets.

I wish I could still find my original (very bad) sketches of such things.
Stuff like a train with an elaborate face of Jupiter on the front (complete with beard spilling down the sides of the boiler).
Or the pistol with an open eagles mouth as the barrel.
I don't know what my deal is with the skirt things. I just like them.

Havokeff. That is really cool. The level of detail is rather amazing (there's a water pouch!), and the sense of movement through the cape and skirt thingies is well conveyed; I can picture him whirling around to behead the barbarian as well as fire on someone else. Weemadando's setting is just generally badass in concept, but you're really helping it come to life. You're a great concept artist, it seems.

I'd assumed that was for gunpowder...
But those are really really good drawings. How long do they take you, Havokeff?
Correct on the gunpowder. 'Bout 20 minutes to a half an hour. If I do some shading, maybe 45 minutes.
Thanks for the good words guys.
