If we allow board members to use their connections to help with the film, we just have to get Lowtax on board with this, and by proxy that gives us the entirety of the SA message board who might want to contribute somehow. That wouldn't be an easy task, but this whole scenario is an uphill battle anyway.

Fast Times contains alot of board references and in-jokes, would it really work as a film if people weren't familiar with SDN's idiosyncracies already?

Fast Times has a lot of good humor too, well...wrong humor. But at least it serves as something we can vaguely base on. Basically, we're gonna make a movie that's funny, brutal, wrong, stupid and smart - at the same time.

I'm going with the animation route, as its honestly the cheapest way to get good quality work done.. If we budget our 1 million, we could easily hire some of the better anime directors, if we go that route, or hire some of the US's better directors. I mean, boondocks was expensive, but Quality, for animation. Animated TBO miniseries could work, if we marketed it to the crowd that loves the military, and the 13 year old boys who hopefully will go "Things blow up! Cool planes! Yay! on the internet. To the mainstream, animated Interstellar Highway could work, if we marketed it as the sci-fi epic.

A film adaptation of what RI and Durandal have in Fast Times would work wonders as a comedy.

Even when I was new to the board, and read it, not even catching the in jokes, I was laughing myself blue with the humor in it - and if you take a Scrubs like route in filming it (single camera, focus on the story of Marina and the gang instead of going off on a different tangent) you could have a very profitable hit.

Bingo. I hadn't seen Scrubs when I started writing it (I don't know about Red), but that's essentially the exact kind of style that would work for it as a show. But the focus would most likely be on The Kernel, as the new kid who's observing all this ridiculous behavior through virgin eyes. To the rest of the gang, it's all normal. To Kernel, it's new and interesting.

A Fast Times movie should have characters keeping those crazy usernames of theirs, too. Makes it more surreal

Fast times would probably work better as a series though. Or at least, that's the way it's written. I'm sure we could come up with a movie plotline, but I doubt it'd be as good as what we've got in the series, frankly. We'd have to compress a lot of it.

Although given that most fanfilm are very decent with a even smaller budget than us, we can at the least make a fanfilm and get free help from other fans.
