How could you cast such aspersions on my character? I was actually giving the Feds credit for being two tiers below, and reffering to the Signers for my unoriginal thinly veiled dig.

Incidentally, for something vaguely on-topic:

Invictus, watch the show, don't watch the show, enjoy it, hate it, whatever. But when it is all of thirteen hours of footage, you could at least have the decency to watch it all before jumping to conclusions.

This can partly be explained as the difference between the border patrol, and a crack federal team flown in from Washington D.C. There's also the ten year or so difference in time, which explains the schmucks on the border patrol getting the cast-off stuff that was top of the line a decade back.

And those WWI/II German helmets worn by some of the Alliance grunts could be an example of Alliance industrial resources being dangerously stretched on some of the outer planets (ie they always had Starship Troopers helmets, but the Alliance soldiers cut off on the ground ran out of them and cheaply knocked out helmets in local workshops).

i need to rewatch episode but I belive inara makes a comment that hers works, and it was deffinetly an unconventional looking gun.
I was mainly saying that it is likely that laser weapons in firefly are likely not trustworthy in the dirty rough enviroment of combat.

Inara however had a... most creative way with dealing with her
