It's a good series that never should have been cancelled. I think I'll watch an episode before I go to bed.

Firefly is simply teh awesome. There can be no denial of this. It is truth. Favourite part of the series: "No power in the 'verse can stop me."
Most disappointing moment of the series: When Saffron and Inara didn't start making out. That was a real downer.

I became a big fan after I got Serenity and the series, when before I didn't like it at all. It's so much better to watch without adverts. It is awesome and I'm disgusted with the world for cancelling it.

Here are some of my inital impressions.

Okay Jewel is in it so it gets ponts off the bat.

Okay her character is WAAY to much like Fred and Willow from the bit I've seen so far...

In the opening scene is that the same cross that Buffy had? (Out of Universe like a little reference thingy). On a more serious note what's with the bright redish brown HERE I AM SHOOT ME! coats the troops had on?

Theme song was bleh...

The Alliance part is interesting, I'd love the not so evil Power idea there showing if the movie hadn't already told me they'll become generic evil goverment.

The use of "space" Chinese is rather annoying... Also what is with there culture this show looks like it's trying to be a Western, Space Opra and a martial arts series all at once.

Also the dude in the Lepurcan suit... :D funny lol Well I be seeing a kilted Scotsmen later on? Or a Russian doing the cossack dance? Or a Native American with a tomahawk?

They were fighting in rocky, semi-arid scrublands. A brown coat is perfect. As for the 'Leprechaun Suit', I assume you're talking about the english-accented criminal 'Badger', who wore a bowler hat and a black suit-coat. How you got leprechaun, I don't know.

That's nothing. Their armour appears to be Chainmail.

I'm not one to gush over the series despite rather enjoying it, but dude, are you retarded? I'm rather cynical and picky when it comes to watching a series, but I can't imagine getting into anything with that kind of aloof perspective.

The theme song grows on you. Well at least it did with me.

It takes awhile to get into the series, it really does. It took me a few episodes to buy into it. (I purchased the Series about a month before Serenity came out.) I caught a few episodes on T.V. but did not really enjoy them.

Watch the series all the way through, if you still do not care for, cool. Just give it the benefit of the doubt until you have seen all the episodes then watch Serenity again.

As far as the Alliance part goes, you are aware, are you not, that Joss Whedon got the inspiration for Firefly while he was reading Michael Shaara’s American civil war novel The Killer Angels? The Alliance is the North, and the Browncoats are the South.

The Chinese and Western motifs are logical.

The populations on the various planets came from Earth. If you look at the current demographics you will discover that when it comes to percentage of the world's population, China is number one.

The Western motif is due to technological infrastructure.

I wasn't aware of it. Especally as the Browncoats stricke me as way to liberal to be Confederates. From what I've seen of them so far.

While the Chinese Western fusion might happen. Here it just comes off as to seperated like there pasted on.

That said I do acknowledge there is a delecate balancing act you can tell went on through this series. Most seem to love it, for me it's just not working.

I'm I the *ONLY* one that's not getting it!?

I'll also admit to a bias with this series. I had a friend try to evanglise me to it with more than she ever did Christianty and with more frevor. (An trust me it was the usual agressive spin).

I'm trying to as it where. "Leave this bias at the door."

Truthfully, Firefly is not for everyone. Watch it all the way through (It is only what, 15 episodes), then judge.

My general method is to give a series seven episodes before I decide to abandon it or not.

The only problem I had with Firefly besides the occasional bouts of Whedon-itis was that the whole Chinese swearing thing just didn't work, mostly because it was a little too abrupt and often went on for too long.

Although you've certianly got a point concerning the chinese swearing, could you expand upon what you mean by 'Whedon-itis"?

They're not literal Confederates in Space.

The Independents resemblence to actual Confederate policy is virtually nil, not suprisingly. Instead they have more to do with the romanticised version of history and a few superficial details.

To be entirely honest, dude, the writing, setting and look of the whole thing are fantastic. I was impressed with the quality of the pilot onwards, it all feels like a proper film only with better characters and humour than usual (though Jayne is a bit two dimensional throughout). You do seem to be looking to complain about anything, really, rather than just having fun watching it.

The confederates weren't meant to be an exact copy of the real world US confeds, they were meant to be an equivalent sympathetic side in a futuristic setting. As for why it's "not working," well, you seem desperate to ignore the human story for some damn reason.
The Alliance part is interesting, I'd love the not so evil Power idea there showing if the movie hadn't already told me they'll become generic evil goverment.
They're not generic evil, they're a "for the greater good" type of evil. The show's main theme is personal freedom vs authoritarianism, with a load of futuristic western stories along the way, "you can't take the sky from me" and all that.
The use of "space" Chinese is rather annoying... Also what is with there culture this show looks like it's trying to be a Western, Space Opra and a martial arts series all at once.
The style and integrated east-west stuff is down to, I presume, the predicted rise of china as the new superpower, and the resolution of that into a mixed globalised culture.
Also the dude in the Lepurcan suit... Very Happy funny lol Well I be seeing a kilted Scotsmen later on? Or a Russian doing the cossack dance? Or a Native American with a tomahawk?
Badger was meant to be English and a con man, not a leprechaun (Irish).

My advice would be to loosen up a bit, maybe? Enjoy the stories, don't be a dick to spite fans for no reason.

Despite the Western setting, I always thought it seemed more like the Colonies vs. the British Empire, except this time the Americans lost.

I've seen many people have the same problems with Firefly. I think it's fascinating that the same people that say 'turn your brain off and enjoy it lol' about some miscellaneous rubbish then turn around and complain the Firefly has generic character archetypes.

Frankly, I don't know why anyone gives a shit what he thinks. He doesn't like it? So what. The Fox suits didn't like it either!

You're such a goob, stark, firstly, I wasn't saying "turn off ur brain lol" I was saying pay attention to the story, and secondly, complaining about Jayne is alright since the other characters undergo some growth. :P Thirdly, you smell like wee!

The goob is YOU! I wasn't talking about YOU, everything isn't about YOU, and I need to say the word YOU again to balance the sentence. :) You and I both know that (for instance) the characters being archetypes is intentional and a part of the theme, and my point about lamer hypocrisy still stands. At least I'm critical evenly: Chiken doubtless likes some utter rubbish, but because he's 'on guard' with Firefly he's picking insignificant holes in it. :D
