How does one go about convincing someone, like my friend, that the best thing that she can do is to stop trying to protect the dirtbag and tell her mom and the cops everything that happened?
Find out if he's done something like this before, and confront her with it?
That might work. It'd be a bit expensive, but I could do it.

...Long live the quandary!

Hah, new news. :?

She still doesn't get it. She called me Saturday night and seemed quite confident that the police wouldn't find anything on her computer. Her sudden sensitivity to computer security was rather scary, as she's never really been into computers, and I knew she used to keep some conversation logs, pictures, etc. Another mark checked off in the "classic internet sex predator" profile. Sadly, she doesn't see it.

She also seems determined, at the moment, to lie low until it all blows over, or until she turns 18.

Furthermore, she's still determined to get around her mom. She didn't tell her mom that her new cellphone can recieve instant messages. I thought something was up when I saw her screen names online yesterday. I asked her to call me and when she did, she told me that she'd gotten a new phone, and it had that capability.

In unrelated news, she's been talking to a boy she knows from school. Which wouldn't be bad, except she knows the boy is abusive and he took full advantage of her a few months ago . . . now she wants him as a boyfriend.

I am going to call her mom again this afternoon. It's not much fun always being the bearer of bad news. If you ever want to have teenaged children of your own, stick with dogs and cats. They aren't as cheerfully stupid. :banghead:
